40 hours per week - Starting October 2023

The Vascular Surgery directorate is based at St Mary's Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital and Hammersmith Hospital. We also support satellite services at both West Middlesex hospital and Chelsea and Westminster hospital.

We receive around 5,000 new general vascular referrals annually, including both GP and tertiary referrals.

Our Vascular Surgery team currently perform over 1,500 daycase surgeries per year and 500+ inpatient operations as part of our elective care pathway.

The team also perform more than 600 non-elective procedures on an annual basis.


There are 10 consultant surgeons, 7 specialist registrars, 2 clinical lecturers, 3 Research SpRs, 9 FY2/CT/Trust grades, 3 FY1s, and 3 AVNPs within the unit.

The post holder will be well supported by this large clinical team.


There are 6 month and 12 month fixed term opportunities have arisen for a Vascular SpR (ST3+) within the directorate to undertake various clinical duties as well as academic responsibilities.

They will work with the clinical, admin and management teams along with support services to meet the clinical, surgical demands on the vascular surgery service at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust with a strong emphasis on education.


We are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated and dynamic team player to join a large multi-disciplinary team, in the directorate of Vascular Surgery.

The SpR will take part in daycase and inpatient theatre lists, outpatient clinics and Multidisciplinary Team Meetings.


It is the responsibility of the post holder to ensure that communication within the vascular service is as effective as possible, keeping both the Consultants, SpRs and Senior Nursing Staff informed of the clinical management of all patients admitted.


Detailed protocols for clinical management are available within the department and the Trust Intranet which the post holder is expected to adhere at all times.


The Imperial Vascular Unit serves a population of up to 2 million and offers treatments for all vascular pathologies with a full spectrum of available treatments.

The unit is also a national referral centre for patients with complex aortic, carotid and venous disease as well as those with arterio-venous malformations making the environment ideal for trainees at all levels but especially for those who are pursuing a career in the specialty.

- operation and participation in this process will be key.

Close relationships with anaesthetists, ITU Consultants, Cardiologists and Cardiac Surgeons, Renal physicians, Neurologists, Nursing, Professional and Technical Staff.

The St Mary's Vascular Unit has an international reputation for its excellence, both clinically and in investigation.


There is a wide variety of experience available since at least one third of the work is tertiary referrals from other vascular procedures, including thoraco-abdominal aneurysms, femoro-distal bypasses, carotid endarterectomies, etc.

In the last few years an expanding endovascular programme has evolved to include carotid stenting, EVAR, fenestrated and branched EVAR, TEVAR and the largest series of hybrid procedures in the world.
