The post holder is responsible for working to strict timescales to provide full Claims Officer functions in all aspects of work of the Legal Services Department.
The post holder is responsible for the managing a caseload of claims/inquests and the progress of these on both Trust and NHSR claim management system.
The post holder will support the Senior Claims Officer and Deputy Head of Legal in the delivery of in-house legal service which contributes to the Quality Governance and Assurance Department by proactively managing clinical and non-clinical claims and inquests implementing the Trust's policies and procedures to achieve the early, equitable and cost-effective settlement of claims.
They will be responsible for their own case load and will support the Senior Claims Officer and Deputy Head of Legal in providing a comprehensive claims/inquests service to the department and the Trust.
The Claims Officer will provide an important role in ensuring that claims/inquests are dealt with in an effective, efficient and economical manner.
The Claims Officer will also liaise with claimant and panel solicitors both in writing, by telephone and in person, together with NHS Resolution, the Coroner's Office and members of the public who are claiming against the Trust without using independent legal advisors (known as Litigant in Person).
They will be responsible for ensuring investigations are undertaken thoroughly and on a timely basis in line with the civil procedure rules/Coroner's timescales.

Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital with an annual budget of approximately £500 million.
The Trust employs around 11,000 staff and serves an extended population of 1.25 million, delivering a number of outpatient services from locations across the area.
The Trust's secondary care service portfolio is comprehensive, covering the major medical and surgical specialties, routine and specialist diagnostic services and other clinical support services.
These services are provided primarily to a catchment population of approximately 600,000 in the Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire area.
HUTH provides specialist and tertiary services to a population of 1.25 million extending from Scarborough in North Yorkshire to Grimsby and Scunthorpe in North East and North Lincolnshire respectively.
