Your role with us
As an Environmental Field Lead Officer, you will play a key role in delivering crucial environmental monitoring.

This involves taking part in a variety of fieldwork and collecting a wide range of samples, from river water to effluents, invertebrates andgroundwater boreholes.

After collecting samples, you will input and interpret environmental data using our monitoring systems.

The role also requires a good deal of communication, as you will liaise with site contacts, members of the public and internal customers while mentoringother team members to make sure we produce consistently high standards of work.

You will work towards qualifying as Officer In Charge for electric fishing surveys, and lead small fishing teams.

Aside from your core duties, you should be prepared to take on boat work and be able to use scheduling tools to improve the delivery of ourresearch.


What do I need?
You should have experience in field work and be aware of biosecurity procedures. Being able to carry out risk assessments is also important, as is being able to train others. But the most important thing we are looking for is a passion for the environmentand the resilience to succeed.


You will need to have:

  • A full UK driving licence
  • The ability to swim confidently and work in or near water
  • Effective communication and relationshipbuilding skills
  • The ability to work autonomously, taking decisions and solving problems to achieve positive outcomes
  • The ability to use a range of computer systems and technology
  • The ability to train others

A small van will be provided and there is the option to start your day and end your day from your home address with an expectation of a daily visit to the contracted base location (Alchemy, Welwyn Garden City) for sample drop offs.
