What you will be doing

We are building the in-house capability to understand how our physical assets are performing and when to make appropriate operational or capital interventions.

This is a high-profile senior leadership role where you will have single-point accountability for and management for the delivery of a defined part of the Major Projects Delivery Programme.

This will be 'cradle to grave' project accountability, from needs definitionthrough to negotiation and delivery of engineering of works that successfully delivers the business case into operational business as usual.

You will be accountable for delivering several major projects with a total investment value circa £250m.

You will use your expertise to manage and assure the performance of Thames Water Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, and its Delivery Partners to safely progress multiple projects and programmes of work to time, cost and quality.

You'll have up to 5 direct reports and 'own' the relationship with our framework Design & Build contractors.

You will be accountable for driving the end-to-end processes within Thames Water and our Supply Chain, continuously raising the bar and shaping the future for enhanced health, safety & environment outcomes, employee engagement, stakeholder satisfaction andsuperior commercial performance.

As a great people person, you will lead and develop your immediate team members, and drive collaboration and team working across a diverse set of key internal and external stakeholders.


Key responsibilities for the role include:

  • Developing and delivering an optimised programme to achieve all regulatory, statutory, and internal outputs, deadlines, and targets
  • Commercial, financial, and proactive risk management
  • Establishing and continuously promoting a proactive health, safety & environment culture across Thames Water and our delivery partners
  • Driving employee engagement in own team and across the department
  • Encouraging and implementing innovation from the supply chain to develop a continuous improvement project culture
  • Maintaining a strong external stakeholder relationship to actively enhance Thames Water's reputation to external customers as well as deliver a successful programme

What you should bring to the role:

  • Be educated to degree level with further professional/management qualifications or have outstanding role-specific experience
  • Be able to demonstrate a track record of success in the delivery of significant capital programmes at a senior level
  • Proven track record of managing the performance of thirdparty organisations
  • Excellent contractual awareness of major complex projects works and contracts
  • Strong commercial approach with a good level of contract knowledge and ability to base decisions on a balance of business development and cost control issues
  • Be able to take on management responsibility in different functions and businesses and direct through challenging periods, with a focus on improving business performance.
  • Proven continuous improvement capability
  • Strive to achieve stretch targets with a desire to continually exceed expectations
  • Have a positive, objective, calm and realistic approach to challenges and risk decisions
