Birmingham - with opportunities for hybrid working.

Salary:
Base salary ranges from £36,300 to £45,350 per year based on skills and experience.

In addition, a flexible benefits fund of 15% is provided on top of the base salary and is fully pensionable, along with a range of competitive benefits described on the company website.

An exciting opportunity is available for an Assistant Property Counsel specializing in property and compulsory purchase to join the HS2 Legal Team and contribute to the development of Britain's new high-speed rail network.


As an Assistant Property Counsel at HS2, you will play a crucial role by providing expert legal advice to ensure the successful delivery and future operation of Europe's largest infrastructure project.

You will advise on various property-related topics to minimize risks, ensure compliance, and deliver property requirements efficiently to fulfill HS2's obligations.


Under the guidance of senior legal team members, you will handle a wide range of property, planning, and compulsory purchase matters related to HS2, including acquisitions, licenses, disputes, and more.


This role offers a unique opportunity to work closely with clients, manage significant cases, and gain insights into how infrastructure projects are executed while addressing complex issues alongside government and private sector stakeholders - an experience exclusive to this groundbreaking project.

About the role:

In this position, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing advice on compulsory purchase and property matters related to HS2, including drafting notices, handling compensation issues, and managing property schemes.
  • Handling a range of complex property and compulsory purchase cases, including drafting agreements and conducting negotiations.
  • Researching and providing advice on HS2 Act powers such as CPO, access, and planning provisions.
  • Managing HS2 office-related property matters, commercial contracts, and legal agreements.
  • Offering guidance on planning law queries, environmental issues, and assisting with additional powers when needed.
  • Assisting with property and planning litigation cases and maintaining communication between internal and external parties.
  • Coordinating with external lawyers, monitoring performance, and ensuring compliance with legal standards.
  • Developing and updating standard templates to enhance operational efficiency and consistency.
  • Preparing legal advice and reports for HS2 staff and senior management.
