HM Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family courts and tribunals in England and Wales.

National Business Centres (NBC) manage centralising administrative and contact functions in HMCTS. Our roles are critical, supporting our service users and colleagues in HMCTS with great performance and a strong culture.

The key purpose of the role


You will be providing administrative support to arrange Special Educational Needs Tribunals for children and young persons between the ages of 0 - 25, in processing the appeals on multiple teams from Registration stage all the way through to the final Decision.

The role will involve liaising with Judiciary, Legal Representative, Parents and Local Authorities. You will also be required to take on telephony work.

You will need strong IT skills and be able to adapt your verbal and written communication style to an empathetic and patient manner.

Key responsibilities:


Administration, Operations and
Processing casework

  • Preparing papers and/or digital files for court, tribunals, hearings and meetings.
  • Producing tribunal documents including creating and updating records digitally
  • Preparing meeting agenda, joining instructions, handouts etc. Using standard letters and correspondence, minutes, notes, reports, submissions etc, according to guidelines and instructions.
  • Clerking tribunals and hearings, ensuring papers and materials are available and up to date.
  • Assisting tribunal users, supporting listing and rota management, checking files, contacting relevant parties.
  • Recording outcomes of tribunals and hearings accurately, interpreting accurately the information needed on file.
  • Working to workload targets in terms of throughput and accuracy.
  • Ensuring compliance and administration documentation meet quality standards.
  • Work may require interpretation of source materials, preparation of bundles, chasing.
  • You may need to modify and adjust information and make decisions to allow work to be completed. Produce basic statistical analysis reports and where needed, process financial information.
  • Checking the work of others, updating records, assessing the value of goods and/or property, reconciling accounts, preparing invoices, information gathering and running straightforward reports.

Communicating

  • Communicate effectively and work with the public, all Tribunal and Hearing staff, Judiciary and internal and external stakeholders, court and tribunal uses and representatives of other agencies and organisations
  • Deliver a helpful, prompt, polite and "right first time" service to our internal and external customers
