Reporting to the Head of External Monitoring in the Insights and Analytics Team, this critical role enables Corporate Relations (and its partner businesses) to understand, quantify and track a range of external sources including news and digital media.


This is a specialist data analytics adviser role; tasked with using digital tools to surface insights related to reputation, communications, and the external world.

Sitting in the Insights and Analytics team in Strategic Communications, you will take research briefs, design and run analytics using a variety of tools including news, social media and search intelligence, dive deep into data to identify insights and present these back to internal stakeholders.


What's the role?


As a Digital Analytics Adviser, you will play a big role in helping the organisation understand the external landscape to help steer future communication and engagement initiatives for Corporate Relations, and to aid in company strategy.

The role will leverage data across owned and earned media channels, combining these with first party data sources to ensure that communication objectives and business strategy are supported by data.


Your role will include:

  • Proposing analytics solutions including tools, approaches or reports;
  • Advising the business on appropriate actions based upon first and third party research
  • Providing regular external intelligence to key stakeholders inside and outside Corporate Relations, as input to business decisions.
  • Driving the building of evidencebased professionalism across Corporate Relations
  • Acting as the digital analytics focal point for key Shell markets, including campaign analysis, issues/crisis response and detailed topic investigations.
  • Tracking risks, issues and opportunities for stakeholders across Corporate Relations and beyond, including alerting, trend analysis and topic detection.
  • Translating data into actionable insights and recommendations, communicating the learnings in a way that the Business can understand and act upon.
  • Working with stakeholders to present report findings in relevant calls or workshops to develop data literacy across the business.

What we need from you
This is a specialist role where previous reputation insights and analytics experience is essential to success


You'll ideally have:

  • Proven experience of news media monitoring, social media listening and digital analytics at both client and external consultancy.
  • Experience using social intelligence to go broader than observations: proven experience of ability to interpret insights in the context of the relevant strategic priorities and form actionable conclusions and recommendations.
  • Advanced knowledge of social media listening, including building Boolean search strings for complex topics, benchmark setting and AIbased topic modelling.
  • Advanced knowledge of the following digital analytics tools: Synthesio (or similar tool), PowerBI, NewsWhip, Brightedge or Google Search Console (or similar search analytics tool). Knowledge of Adobe Analytics, Sprinklr Analytics module and societal polling.
  • Experience of multisource data integration and insight mining incorporating web, search, and opinion research using measurement frameworks, and delivering actionable recommendations.
  • Evidence of best practice analytical knowledge through industry certification such as the AMEC (Association for Measurement and Evaluation of Communication) Foundation Certificate or similar.
