Software Development Engineer - Chester

£32,000 - £36,000 | Flexi-time & Work From Home

  • Software development role.
  • Would consider background in mechanical, electrical or mechatronic
  • Working in a stateoftheart design, development and test facility.
  • Experience using software such as Python, Java, C++, C# etc.
  • Working with highly technical engineering products and automation.
  • Excellent benefits package including flexitime and working from home (60/40 split).

The Company
Our client is part of a prestigious global engineering group and are considered as the market leader. Specifically, they design, develop and manufacture bespoke equipment and automation (please contact JMT for more detail).


Job Purpose
This is a software develop ent role, working in an R&D engineering facility with robots and automation. You will work along-side other engineers such as mechanical / electrical design, controls engineers to help develop new products.


Key Responsibilities

Engineering Responsibilities

  • To develop innovative, sustainable, and value enhancing features and products that help deliver the SPR product roadmap
  • To contribute developed code (for products and business scripting) into DVCS repositories
  • To actively participate in agile events (e.g. scrums, sprint planning and retrospectives) that support our agile product development mindset
  • To support root cause analysis and reproduction of reported opportunities for efficient issue resolution
  • To work with the Agile Product Delivery (APD) team to help plan, prepare and deliver program increments that deliver globally aligned features, capabilities, and enablers to a defined cadence
  • To promote a global R&D mindset by working closely with colleagues and the APD team to ensure product development activities are conducted in accordance with the global 'new product introduction' governance framework

Education / Qualification / Skills

  • Postgraduate education in electrical / computer engineering or computer science
  • Awareness of hardware components comprising industrial control systems and their IEC schematic utilisation
  • Ability to interface with other departments across the business to collect, interpret, and complete deliverables as required
  • Ability to demonstrate an involvement with physical testing of components / assemblies with knowledge of instrumentation suitable for this purpose
  • Familiarity with agile mindset and agile approaches applied to a product development or controls engineering context
  • Communication skills to inform and influence including the ability to produce accurate and highquality technical reports Ability to conduct limited travel to customer sites, global engineering centres, or training providers
