Personal Assistant Job Description

Post:
Personal Assistant

Hours: 7 hours per week to include - Tuesday's after school, 3.15pm to 5.15pm and any other evening(s) after school. There will be an opportunity for up to 8 additional hours in the school holidays.

Salary:
£9.21 per hour

Role:

The PA that the family want to invite into their lives must be a confident and experienced individual, who feels comfortable joining their family routine to support their son.

Whether this is after school or taking him out to give the family some respite.

The family are looking for a person who will be happy to enjoy some 1 to 1 time with their son and give him some independence by doing things with another trusted adult.

The main role will be to keep their 7 year old son safe while enjoying his surroundings at home and outdoors.

He already has 1 PA and they enjoy spending time together on a weekend.

This young boy does not use verbal communication so an understanding of alterative communication methods would be an advantage.

He is mobile and will use a wheelchair when going to places where there is lots of walking or which may result in a sensory overload for him e.g.

Meadowhall where there are lots of people.

He's a very happy child who loves nothing more than having his parents or PA's full attention Sometimes this isn't possible and he may show you he's not happy by kicking out, therefore someone with a degree of resilience and natural positivity would be ideal.

There will be personal care involved in this role.

Essential criteria:

  • Experience of working with children with special educational needs and ideally have supported a child who is non verbal
  • Ability to work as a team and to learn from the family and existing PA
  • Understand positive risk management and to be aware of strategies to use to manage behaviour, and can keep calm
  • Willing to invest in getting to know this child well and commit to providing the best support
  • Be friendly, reliable, and honest; and maintain confidentiality.
  • Be respectful in the familyhome.
  • Be creative and confident with a fun and professional approach
  • A good sense of humour and have the enthusiasm to motivate the young boy to engage in activities
  • Have a genuine desire to enhance the life of this child

Desirable criteria:

  • Have ideas about things that the young boy may enjoy and bring your own interests to the team
