Background

  • This is an exciting opportunity to join the User Experience Team within the Library and Learning Resources Department as a Library and Information Adviser in the Salomons Library (Royal Tunbridge Wells)
  • The Salomons Library moved to its current home in Lucy Fildes House in 2017. It supports the university's Institute for Applied Psychology, providing a wide range of facilities, mixing physical resources with learning spaces to support a variety of study needs.
  • The User Experience Team is responsible for frontline and circulation service delivery, including service desks, managing the study environment, leading the development of promotional and marketing activities, supporting and leading student engagement initiatives and student orientation programmes. The team also deliver a number of support services including inter library loans, scan and deliver suggest an ebook, acquisitions, billing and scanning services for academics.

Who are YOU
looking for?

  • We are looking to recruit a part time (18.5 hours per week) permanent post. You will be expected to work outside of these shifts on occasion to support activities of the Department. Occasional travel to the Canterbury campus will be required for staff development.
  • Reporting to the User Experience Team Coordinator you will play a key role in providing high quality customer service and support for students, staff and members of the public. On a daily basis you will give advice, in person and via our communication channels, in the use of all facilities and service. You will need to have excellent interpersonal and communication skills coupled with welldeveloped problemsolving skills.
  • You will ensure that the stock is maintained to a high standard and be involved in shelving, stock disposal and support stock projects.
  • In this post, you will contribute to library orientations, assist with library communications, help develop marketing and awareness campaigns and contribute to the maintenance and content creation for library websites.
  • You will have excellent customer service skills and an enthusiasm for library services. You will have experience of working in a library, information environment or customer focused environment, providing a direct customer support service and carrying out library tasks in a professional capacity. You will be an effective team player and be adaptable to meet service demands.
  • In your covering letter you must be able to evidence that you meet all the essential criteria with examples of how you have met the required skills and evidence of the desirable requirements would also be advantageous.

  • This role is typically campus based due to the need to provide in person service support.
