This leading not-for-profit organisation is seeking an experienced
Careers Adviser to support the delivery of its Prisons Careers Advice service in Kent


The organisation delivers career information, advice and guidance (IAG) services, supporting prison residents with a structured pathway of education, work and training during their stay in custody.


This is a Permanent, Part-time position, two days per week


Based at HMP Maidstone, you will be able to motivate and build rapport with individuals from various backgrounds and be non-judgemental.

Excellent organisational and communication skills are also essential, as this post will involve working with other key prison partners to support residents during the induction process and for the length of their sentences.


A Personal Learning Plan (PLP) is produced for every prison resident, identifying their short, medium, and long-term skills and targets.

The individual's career aspirations and the opportunities for work in their local area will influence this plan.


Careers Adviser Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualified Careers Adviser IAG qualification at Level 3 or above
  • Maths and English GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent)
  • A commitment to undertake all necessary training for the role
  • Experience in managing a caseload of adults/ young people from diverse backgrounds
  • Awareness of the social and economic issues affecting people

Careers Adviser Main Responsibilities:


  • Be responsible for delivering a highquality IAG service in one or more prisons.
  • Work with the prison staff to manage, mentor and support a caseload of peer workers to deliver inspirational IAG in both 1:1 and group sessions as required.
  • Deliver approximately 25% of the Personal Learning Plans and work to ensure the delivery of the remainder through trained peer workers.
  • Coach and support a team of peer workers to ensure effective and highquality delivery
  • Work with the education provider to ensure that all appropriate individuals are provided with the service

Salary & Benefits package

  • Salary of £24,648 to £30,051 pro rata (depending on experience)
