  • We are looking for an enthusiastic, selfmotivated and inspirational person to lead the National Monitoring Field Team in the North East. Whilst the location is flexible you will be covering a dispersed team based in the North East area and travel to meet team members in the field would be expected with the main office being at Newcastle.

You will manage and be responsible for a dispersed front-line team who collect a variety of chemical, physical and biological samples in the North East area, to deliver the National and Area environmental monitoring programmes.

Being organised and confident in dealing with a wide range of customers and stakeholders is important and you will be responsible for the performance of your team, developing and motivating them to deliver results to strict time and quality targets, whilst ensuring their health, safety and wellbeing.

You will develop team members to ensure effective delivery of the monitoring programme in the North East. Ensuring appropriate skill levels are developed and maintained and team performance is optimised in line with specified goals.

You will be responsible for the health, safety & wellbeing of your team by actively promoting awareness and ensuring the provision of safe working practices in line with Environment Agency guidance.

You will be a role model and promote inclusion by respecting differences in our workforce and build a supportive & engaging workplace.

There will also be opportunity to support the Environment Agency's Incident response.

  • The Monitoring Field Team is part of National Monitoring. We collect fieldbased samples and environmental data for local, national, and statutory requirements. The data collected provides key information across the Environment Agency to serve a diverse community and environmental needs.

The location is flexible, you will be covering a dispersed team based in the North East and travel to meet team members in the field would be expected with the main office being in Newcastle.


  • Experience/skills required 1
  • A full UK driving licence is essential for this role as regular travel around the North East will be required.
We are looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated applicants.

You should have the ability to provide leadership to motivate and inspire your team to deliver the monitoring programme in the North East.

Experience and knowledge of the Environment Agency's monitoring programmes would be an advantage, but it is not essential.

More important is that you will have excellent communication skills and you will know how to lead, motivate and develop your team so that they can be their best.

You will also need experience of managing the Health, Safety and Wellbeing of others, ideally in a dispersed or field based setting.

You support people through change and create an environment that encourages creativity, innovation and improving efficiency.

  • Contact and additional information 1The base location for this role is national but regular travel around the patch to see your team will be required centred around the local Tyneside House office, Newcastle. You will also occasionally be required to travel to meetings around the country.
