The Role


The Senior Research Engineer (SRE) is primarily focused on the independent technical delivery of projects and leadership in the development of project related activities across The MTC, working across various technology departments and industrial sectors.

Duties and responsibilities of the Senior Research Engineer include:

Supporting Senior Managers with a proactive approach in the identification, technical specification, and delivery of new and novel technology capability into the MTC, customers, or industrial members' premises.

Involvement in all aspects of the project delivery, taking overall ownership and ensuring compliance with all relevant standards, technical support of commissioning, management of project budget and deliverables.

Providing technical leadership, mentoring and coaching to other staff while undertaking training to progress own career development.

Leading project technical deliverables, taking ownership to ensure work meets or exceeds agreed customer requirements, and is delivered within agreed budgets and timescales.

Where delegated, will act as Technical Governance lead for project deliverables.
Undertaking innovative Engineering research work focused primarily on technology/manufacturing readiness levels (TRL/MRL) 3+.
Supporting the development of content for and the delivery of Design for Additive Manufacture training.


The Person


Degree educated holding one of the following; BSc, BEng, MSc or MEng, or equivalent, in an appropriate Mechanical Engineering or suitable Engineering discipline.

Demonstable experience in Design for Additive Manufacture and project delivery and the desire to increase their knowledge of, and undertake design projects in the additive manufacturing field, so as to assist UK industry.

Essential is a proactive approach and being able to work autonomously either on-site or remotely, whilst consulting appropriately with peers and senior engineers to manage & facilitate the delivery of simultaneous projects.

Core skills involve developing innovative solutions to problems, liaising directly with clients & stakeholders to create technical specifications, design requirements and understand user needs.

Effective and confident communication of project activities andconcepts to a varied audience is also a key requirement for the role, both verbally & visually.

Including strong ability to communicate ideas & concepts.

It would be beneficial to have experience using advanced design tools to maximise the performance of additively manufactured, complex, components.
