£26,000 per annum


Job Summary:


This role entails visiting looked-after young people (16+) that are living within Akela Future Living homes and advancing their knowledge and understanding of independence and healthy living.

Specialist Outreach Workers will be required to provide the delivery of bespoke support packages, based on the individual's needs.

Every day within the role is different to the last.

Example tasks may include teaching a young person how to cook, supporting them with their appointments or helping them to budget their weekly money.

Ultimately, the aim of this role is to support and advocate for the young people within the service, to ensure that the young person is safe, listened to and constantly progressing towards quality-of-life improvement and post-18 living.

To be considered for this role, prospective employees must:

  • Have an advanced understanding of looked-after young people
  • Have at least 1years' experience of directwork with atrisk young people
  • Be willing to provide a full, enhancedDBS
  • Be able to provide two acceptable references, one must be from the most recent employer
  • Have completed a Level3, accredited qualification working with young people, or be willing to work towards this

Key Tasks:


Main aspects of the role include:

  • Visiting looked-after young people in their supported-living homes, currently ranging from Worcestershire to Birmingham but soon to include the wider West Midlands areas.
  • Supporting young people to settle into and progress from Akela Future Living properties
  • Assessing, planning and delivering support packages, focussing on improving a young person's skills in health and independence
  • Advocating for the young person's needs
  • Completing casenotes and updating records
  • Working in partnership with the Local Authority and external partners
  • Attending multidisciplinary meetings
  • Managing your own calendar
  • Loneworking
  • Sleepins and latechecks to properties may be required

Specialist Outreach Workers are expected to complete any and all tasks that are set by senior management, if the task set is reasonable.


Other required skills:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • An advanced level of IT skills
  • Full driving license, use of own car and business insurance (in the event the company car is unable to be used, for whatever reason)
