Ashgate School is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Lunchtime Support Assistant to meet and support the needs of SEND pupils at lunchtime.

Our Lunchtime Support Assistants help to ensure that children are safe and happy during the lunchtime period and make the most of the opportunities for learning at this important point in the day.

Like all of our staff, applicants need to be reliable and adaptable, with positive attitudes towards children and young people with special needs.

We would like to hear from people who are interested in joining our lunchtime team.

Everyone here, including casual employees, works in a challenging but rewarding and supportive environment.

Specific duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Supervising the children during the mid-day break, including when they are waiting to go for lunch and whilst eating lunch
  • Helping children who need assistance with their meals, ensuring that they are able to enjoy their meals without undue difficulty or delay
  • Supporting and assisting the children in lunchtime leisure and play activities
  • Assisting with the physical care of children, e.g. toileting, changing and washing (for those children who need this level of help)
  • Following agreed procedures for dealing with and reporting incidents during the midday break
Lunchtime staff work for an hour and 30 minutes each day.

  • Have a positive outlook, be highly motivated and flexible.
  • Be selfmotivated, show initiative, able to work on your own work and contribute as part of a team.
  • Have high expectations of themselves, colleagues, children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
  • Be able to support the learning of children and young people with SEND.
  • Be committed to the safeguarding of children and young people and be able to contribute to ensuring a safe environment for all.
