This is an great opportunity to be instrumental in our journey to success by joining us as our Chief Operating Officer (COO).

The role will be an opportunity to join the passionate team at CILIP working closely with the Chief Executive Officer to the ensure smooth and efficient running of the CILIP operations.


The COO is responsible for the leadership and oversight of the Business Development and Performance & Improvement functions of the organisation.

The role will be expected to deliver on the membership and product/services sales targets for the organisation, including overseeing the complete sales pipeline and the development of a sales and improvement culture.

As the new COO, you will also be responsible for the effective marketing and communication of value, products and services to CILIP's audiences and stakeholders.

You will be responsible for ensuring knowledge is shared effectively across the organisation to improve performance.


This is a permanent hybrid role, working 35 hours and paying between £55,000 to £65,000 per annum (dependent on London or Outside London weighting).

This role is accountable for delivering:

Business Development

  • Leading a team to meet sales targets for membership and nonmembership products/services. This includes lead generation driven by internal data/knowledge and external sources
  • Ownership for the delivery of effective sales and marketing plans Ensuring customers are supported to successfully complete business activities.
  • Leading the marketing and communication of CILIP's products and services including overall responsibility for the organisational brand and managing external contracts.
  • Oversight of the communications programme for CILIP Reporting on effective engagement and sales activities

Performance and Improvement

  • The smooth and efficient running of the organisation.
  • Providing the organisation with the Financial, Data, System, Digital and HR functions it needs to reach its potential.
  • Ensuring a culture focused on agile solutions and cross organisation working to secure growth and value. Ensuring compliance with appropriate regulations and legislation including but not limited to data, HR, finance and charity.
  • To ensure the effective recruitment, development and management of their direct reports and directorates.

  • Ability to create and empower highperforming teams and individuals
  • Ability to envision, shape and direct highly effective operations
  • Commitment to driving sales, growth and performance
  • Understanding of the context of delivery in a charitable organisation
  • Ability to work collaboratively across other organizational functions to secure outcomes
