We are currently looking for an organized
Technical Support Team Member
to join our Biological Services team
within the Scientific Research & Innovation **group.

This is a
full-time opportunity, on a
permanent basis.

The role will be based at our South Mimms, Hertfordshire site with occasional remote working a possibility, dependent upon the nature of the role.

Not all roles will be suitable for remote working.

The Scientific Research and Innovation Group's Research & Development function delivers statutory mandated strategically aligned, sustainable and impactful Regulatory Scientific research that is applied primarily to biological reference materials development and medicines control testing and areas of international and national priority for future biological medicines.


What's the role?


Biological Services, within Analytical and Biological Sciences supports three sub-groups of SR&I; Standards Lifecycle, Control Testing and R&D in all aspects of in vivo experimentation.

The division houses a range of species across two floors at different containment levels up to and including containment level 3 (CL3) and Specified Animal Pathogen Order 4 (SAPO4).

A highly trained and professional technical team care for the animals and perform the scientific procedures, underpinned by a specialist support team, ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare are maintained at all times.


The post holder will be a member of the Technical Team working within the busy multi-disciplined Biological Services Division (BSD), which houses a range of laboratory animal species: to contribute to the in-vivo support service to NIBSC scientific Divisions which is necessary for compliance with the Institute's activities for vaccine control, batch release, standards, and research and development.


Key responsibilities:


  • Maintain the routine cleanliness and hygiene, to the highest standards, of all areas of the BSD facility on a daytoday basis.
  • Provide direct support to Technical Staff with the care and welfare of a variety of animal species, including nonhuman primates (NHPs):
  • Process all BSD Waste, ensuring appropriate sterility and containment, and arrange safe disposal following the Institutes recycling and waste streams.
  • Receive and put away consumables to the Division, and maintain Stores areas including routine stock control, and raising orders for stock replacement

Who are we looking for?

  • Be able to work within a team and individually, normally unsupervised following appropriate training.
  • Have practical experience of working in a laboratory setting and/or Animal house.
  • Be proficient in the use of all equipment relating to general cleaning and disinfection / sterilisation activities within BSD, including specialist equipment but not limited to; Autoclaves, Cage washers, Animal bedding disposal unit, Pressure water guns, Floor polishers, Drinking water bottle fillers, Bedding dispenser.
