Birmingham Hospice is looking for a talented HR professional to join its busy and enthusiastic People Team.


You will support our People Partner with dedicated areas of the hospice in all aspect of people related activity - onboarding new starters, contractual changes, management of attendance, volunteering, corporate induction and providing first line advice to our managers.


There are always going to be interesting people projects to be involved in, it's a role that offers real variety.

Some of our current projects are Investors in Diversity, developing our technology for solutions for automation, development of our Wellbeing offer and supporting our managers with a development programme.


Possessing a working knowledge across key elements of the CIPD profession map, you will ideally hold CIPD membership supported by a Level 5 qualification in Human Resources or have an equivalent level of experience, with experience in a similar role with a demonstrable commitment to your CPD.

Job Purpose


The post holder will provide a high standard, solution focused and valuing adding HR service, supporting the People Team to meet its strategic aims and objectives.


This will include the delivery of a gold standard recruitment and on boarding service for employees and volunteers, developing and maintaining HR systems and utilising data and providing first line advice on a wide breadth of HR issues including recruitment, absence management, performance management, right to work, volunteering and HR systems.


Main Duties and Responsibilities
Recruitment and On-boarding

  • Utilise technological solutions to ensure that recruitment requisitions are authorised correctly and are processed in line with budget and the Hospice staffing establishment
  • Proactively contact new recruits to support their onboarding journey and induction to the HCP
  • Support recruiting managers to use the
    CONNECT system for recruitment campaigns
  • In conjunction with the Marketing and Communications department, ensure the online jobs portal is in line with Hospice branding requirements
  • Administer terms and conditions for new starters as part of the onboarding process
  • Ensure all preemployment checks are completed in line with employment legislation, CQC requirements and Hospice policies and procedures, whilst proactively liaising with the appropriate agencies as required
  • Ensure all necessary documentation is in place for new recruits engaged via an Honorary contract
  • Support Corporate Induction arrangements
  • Liaise with pension providers for new starters, including obtaining quotations
  • Maintain data in the
    CONNECT system to ensure it meets reporting and GDPR requirements

CONNECT

  • Ensure new users have access to Employee Self Service (ESS), and People Manager if appropriate
  • Process contractual changes on to
    CONNECT, ensuring the change meets the Hospice Charity Partnership terms and conditions package
  • Process new recruits through the new starter transfer process
  • Support and train end users
  • Managing from start to end any
    CONNECT impacts following organisational changes
  • Setting up new positions (and if necessary new posts) and maintaining posts and positions, ensuring iTrent rules on the creation of posts and positions are followed and maintained with the appropriate status (vacant / approved to fill / unapproved), actioning change to posts forms.
  • Updating system to reflect changes, e.g., changes in department names/changes in line management
Advisory

  • Provide advice to line managers on attendance management initiatives
  • Support managers with Occupational Health referrals
  • Provide advice and guidance to people with maternity, paternity, adoption and parental leave
  • Provide first line advice to queries received by the People Team
  • Advise people on basic Payroll queries such as occupational sick pay entitlements, tax calculations
  • Advise people on terms and conditions of employment, such as entitlement to holiday, occupational sick pay and special leave
  • Support the People Partners with HCP wide initiatives such as wellbeing and management development
  • Carry out exit interviews with leavers
  • Produce training and performance reports
Learning

  • Support department managers with the organisation of weeklong activities for school work experience
  • Authorise L&D requests in line with agr
