Finance Associate - Fixed Assets - 9M FTC - Flexible Location

  • 9 Month Fixed Term Contract OZ)

Please note this role can be based at any of our store support centres in Holborn, Coventry, Milton Keynes and Manchester. Interviews for this role will take place in the New Year.


You will be responsible for the processing and reporting of additions/disposals of PPE held on the Balance Sheet and supporting asset register along with periodic depreciation reporting to enable the Financial Accountant - Fixed Assets to update the Finance Manager - Fixed Assets & Property Accounting.

You will execute accounting processes (including period-end transactions and journals) in the core finance systems and validate outputs of direct reports to drive completion of accurate and representative financial statements in line with the agreed deadlines and quality standards.


What you need to do

  • Creation and posting of periodic journals for Additions, Disposals and depreciation accounting (for both Sainsburys and Argos)
  • Balance Sheet Reconciliations
  • Creation of CPARs as required
  • Capitalisation of WIP in a timely way once projects are complete
  • Analysis of asset disposals in the period and production of the Disposal Report and reconciliation to the balance sheet movement
  • Accounting for Labour capitalisations and Capitalised Interest
  • Reporting in Property Surveyors projects and transfers/abortive processing as required
  • Support the delivery of Finance improvement initiatives and implementation of internal & external best practices to enhance process efficiency and quality of outputs including:
  • Data quality improvements
  • Elimination, simplification and/or automation of transactional activities (e.g. journals, period end, reconciliations etc.)
  • Reporting improvements e.g. report rationalisation, design and implementation

What you need to know and show

  • Part Qualified/Studying towards a professional accounting qualification
  • Strong analytical skills, Excel skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work fluidly with data and across systems e.g. reporting tools
  • Team player with good presentation and communication skills (both verbal & written)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with key stakeholders
  • Organisational and prioritisation skills
  • Some experience in driving process simplification and improvements
  • Experience in PPE accounting and reporting
  • Experience in using systems that support financial accounting and reporting processes (e.g. Oracle, Blackline, and other reporting tools)
  • Experience in a large company environment, preferably retail (desired)
