About this job:


An opportunity has arisen to work within the council's Private Sector Housing Team as a Housing Enforcement Officer to ensure that all privately rented properties meet the appropriate standards and provide safe accommodation to our residents.

The Private Sector Housing Team at Barking and Dagenham is part of a larger group of Regulatory Services within the Law and Governance Directorate.


We are looking for highly professional and experienced Housing Enforcement Officers who have all of the key behaviours expected from our organisation and who are capable of providing both specialist knowledge and delivering resolution focussed outcomes for our residents.

The positions require a commitment and passion for private sector housing work, improving the quality, safety and choice of residential accommodation in Barking and Dagenham through a range of professional, specialist and regulatory interventions.


We are currently advertising three roles within the Private Sector Housing Team; these roles will undertake all duties associated with providing a Private Sector Housing and Licensing Service to support the delivery of the regulatory and statutory service.

This will include the investigation of reports of disrepair within privately rented properties and investigating and resolving breaches of the selective licence conditions.

About you:


You will be a flexible, dynamic and enthusiastic team player with excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to your duties to get them completed as efficiently as possible.

You will have a thorough understanding of Private Sector Housing legislation and the current emerging issues and developments in the field.

You will be passionate about improving the quality, safety and choice of residential accommodation in the Borough and committed to making a difference to our private rented tenants and their families.
