Description

We are looking for an experienced and passionate infection prevention nurse specialist with excellent organisation and people skills to lead our dynamic and progressive infection prevention service.

The infection prevention service works to provide expert advice, training and guidance to ensure practice is safe and effective within our services and also works to ensure the organisation meets all the legal and regulatory requirements of the Health Care Act and CQC standards.

You will be a a visible leader and while you will be based at headquarters you will be provided with mobile equipment to enable you to travel to work at our various service and administration locations and to work from home on occasions.


You will need to be have adegree and/or post graduate level or equivalent experience in infection prevention and control and recent experience of working at band 8a or above as an infection control nurse specialist in an acute hospital or community setting.

The Head of Infection Prevention and Control will be responsible for:

  • The development and achievement of the organisation's Infection Prevention Strategy and report on progress to the DIPC
  • Ensuring infection prevention and control practice meets the requirements of the Health Act and Care Quality Commission standards across the Provide Group
  • Working at an advanced level demonstrating a high level of autonomy and clinical decisionmaking
  • Providing Leadership and line managing the Infection Prevention & Control Team.
  • Working to prevent and reduce the incidence of infections through risk assessment, surveillance, audit, intervention and education, policy writing and through recognised outbreak prevention methods.
  • Working collaboratively with individuals and groups and across professional and organisational boundaries.

  • Be a key member of the senior leadership team.
  • Be responsible for the development and achievement of the Provide Group Infection Prevention Strategy and annual work plan and report on progress
  • Work to ensure infection prevention and control practice meets the requirements of the Health Act and Care Quality Commission standards across the Organisation to support the achievement of a good or outstanding CQC rating across all services
  • Provide professional advice on all matters relating to infection prevention and control, through membership of relevant committees, direct communications and the risk register
  • Draft very good quality reports for the Board and other committees and groups.
  • Lead the Infection Prevention Group (IPG) escalating risks and actions taken to mitigate them to the Quality & Safety Committee and the Board
  • Line manage the IPC team and manage the delivery of the infection prevention and control service ensuring the service is responsive, visible and at the forefront of improving service safety and effectiveness
  • Act as a role model and be a visible clinical leader within the organisation, clearly communicating advice and recommendations.
  • Work autonomously and be a good team player.
  • Keep abreast of new developments and interpret and assess appropriateness for implementation, completing business cases where needed and undertaking implementation projects to ensure safe roll out of new innovations and changes in practice
  • Develop policies, guidelines and protocols for the management of infection control
  • Work in collaboration with the estates team to develop infection control processes and systems to ensure all premises are safe and fit for purpose throughout Provide
  • Undertake investigation of specific infections reported by the microbiology laboratory, completing a comprehensive repo
