A talented Area Trading Manager is needed to join the team at this leading non-profit conservation organisation based in Bournemouth.


The charity raises funds and awareness to support Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole's parks and open spaces for now and future generations.


They want to create inspirational parks that improve people's health and well-being, reconnect people with nature and bring diverse communities together.


The charity manages a growing number of community park cafes and this is an excellent opportunity to join them and play a substantial role in bringing communities together through a cafe nature hub.


About the Role


The charity's social enterprise activities are rapidly expanding and they are now recruiting an entrepreneurial leader to oversee their environmental focussed community cafe portfolio.


You will help to create welcoming community cafés with environmental values and social impact at its heart while maximising profitability using your strong financial and leadership skills.


You will manage a team of Cafe Managers who are supported by volunteers; many of whom have special educational needs and/or learning disabilities.

You must be able to travel across Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole. Out-of-hours work (including weekends) will also be required.

This is a vital role for the charity's growth and this is an exciting opportunity for someone with significant experience within the hospitality industry, with sound leadership, financial, marketing and entrepreneurial skills


Key Responsibilities:


  • Oversee three community cafes and one visitor centre, ensuring they provide a welcoming atmosphere, are environmentally sustainable, operate safely and produce a surplus
  • Work at each site (covering the manager's days off) a minimum of one day a month to ensure you fully understand its operations and can maximise opportunities for that site
  • Review and build relationships with new and existing suppliers, ensuring they sell quality food and drink with strong ethics at the right price to be financially viable
  • Review and develop the menu offering for each community café venue to maximise revenue, customer footfall and customer satisfaction
  • Develop a social media following to drive awareness and footfall to the cafe, plus manage and answer reviews and feedback on social media and digital channels
  • Help develop the branding and voice of the community park cafes
  • Assist in the development and promote events and activities to drive revenue and footfall
  • Ensure all IT and till infrastructure operates adequately
  • Review and develop financial procedures for all trading sites in partnership with their Bookkeeper and Treasurer
  • Closely monitor all income & expenditure and profit & loss reports to meet daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly target
  • Deliver financial profit targets established in agreement with the Chief Executive Officer
  • Train each manager on till systems and cashing up procedures
  • Support the recruitment of Cafe Managers and parttime hourly paid staff, ensuring all HR documentation is complete
  • Ensure recruitment matches planned rotas and venues operate within a staffing budget
  • Ensure all parttime hourly paid staff complete monthly time sheets accurately
