About the Role:


Orchard House Surgery has an opportunity for a registration assistant to join our busy practice support team, on a
part-time basis for 21 hours per week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.


The main purpose of the role is:

  • To undertake a range of administrative tasks which require good keyboard skills, a good telephone manner and the ability to liaise freely/professionally with patients and other outside agencies, as appropriate.
  • To summarise new patient medical records in accordance with Health Authority regulations and practice requirements, ensuring that target dates are achieved.

Main duties include:

  • Ensure all new registration paperwork is checked and complete and undertake registration of patients in Systm
  • Where necessary, write to patients querying contact information and follow up if no response within a reasonable period of time.
  • Inputting and updating of patient information;
  • Creation of and sending out of Systm1 online passwords daily.
  • Creating patient online access to patient records in accordance with guidelines
  • Joint responsibility for maintaining the electronic links with Cambridgeshire and Suffolk Patient Services Departments, in Systm1.

We are looking for:

  • Someone who can demonstrate judgement, resourcefulness, accuracy and common sense.
  • The ability to work accurately essential
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ideally previous note summarising & registration experience
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

About Us:

We are a 6-partner PMS practice with approx. 12,000 patients.

We also employ 3 further salaried doctors, a nurse manager, 5 practice nurses, an associate practitioner, HCA & 2 phlebotomists.

We also have access to PCN staff; pharmacists, emergency care practitioners, physician associates & physiotherapists.


The practice is one of three based in Newmarket that provides a high level of care to our patients in Newmarket and surrounding villages.

We work in a large, well-equipped, purpose-built premises with free onsite parking, and within walking distance of Newmarket town.
