What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?


This is an excellent opportunity for a professional to join an FMCG FTSE 100 company, looking to support the business program to shape internal toxicological approaches for our expanding product portfolio, whilst also ensuring state of the art science is applied to current product portfolio.


The primary role is to direct and deliver workstreams within the toxicology department, to review and build upon current ways of working and approaches.

Working to support future work programmes in accordance with internal BAT toxicological guidelines, Global stewardship policy and corporate positions.


Seen as a leading member in the Toxicology department team, responsible for taking the technical lead and planning in toxicology driven projects to ensure future toxicology needs are mapped and resourced to proactively navigate and provide solutions to scientific challenges (Internal and External).

Responsibility encompasses every product category to include focus on upstream projects and above category workstreams, taking direction from the Principal Toxicologist, and working closely with Toxicology category team leads and Toxicology Managers.


Providing in-direct leadership and coaching for the Toxicology department team (~ + 27 members), with a focus on training and technical development throughout the department.

Responsible for providing guidance and proactive problem-solving to ensure aligned approaches across the Toxicology department.

Working across the business to drive the progression of workstreams that will enable Toxicology team to remove risks, build fundamental learnings and science, whilst aligning to current and future business objectives.


What is the direct impact of this role on the team or organization?


The purpose of the role is to proactively progress toxicological opportunities which will ultimately serve the broader business long term strategy of 'A Better Tomorrow', building robust toxicological packages to support this ambition.

Spanning scientific requirements, regulatory impacts (imminent and future), and acting as the point of contact for specific areas when directed by Principal Toxicologist and Toxicology Managers.


Reviewing external and internal approaches (with Principal Toxicologist) to ensure the latest thinking is built into our toxicological approaches, role holder will be responsible for imbedding changes/learnings through the Toxicology department ways of working (End to End).

Also, ensuring that toxicology programs extract maximum learning and future proofed where appropriate.


Working closely with Toxicology department leads, to outline and understand external risks and how these can be mitigated (imminent and future).

This will require close collaboration and connectivity with business partners to help shape and develop robust approaches which consider business strategies.

WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR

  • Work within the Toxicology department to drive (above business project) internal toxicological projects. These projects will support the toxicology department to address fundamental workstreams. Taking the lead in outlining plans and requirements for successful delivery. Working closely with Toxicology department leads to ensure resources are available to accomplish project completion.
  • Author, review and sign off Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRAs) as part of the toxicological evaluation process.
  • Train and coach toxicology members to become efficient and competent in authoring, reviewing, and signing off risk assessments.
