HGV Technician
Duties Related to the Operation of the Vehicle Workshop and MOT Center:
- Assist with the allocation of work and administration of the vehicle workshop.
- Provide fleet vehicle and plant maintenance along with MOT & Taxi testing.

Task Specifics:
Purpose of the Role:
- Ensure the plant and fleet are serviced, maintained, and repaired to high standards.
- Prioritize work to meet service needs.
- Assist with allocation, monitoring, recording, and auditing garage works.
- Liaise with the Fleet Officer and undertake workshop responsibility in their absence.
- Carry out inspections, safety checks, servicing, and repairs as required.
- Prepare vehicles for Plating and MOT tests.
- Conduct MOT and Taxi inspections.
- Support fleet maintenance out of normal working hours when required.
Service to Customers/Key Relationships:
- Work professionally with external and internal customers.
- Liaise with contractors and suppliers relating to garage operations.
Business Improvement/Planning Responsibility:
- Organize resources to meet service demands effectively.
Managing Resources (People, Equipment, Buildings):
- Work with the Fleet Officer to ensure efficient workshop operations.
Skills, Knowledge, Experience, Qualifications:
Skills (Essential):
- Mechanical understanding of HGV commercial vehicles, cars, and plant maintenance.
- Ability to prioritize work based on service needs.
- Methodical and efficient working.
- Ability to work under pressure while maintaining high standards.
- Computer software operation and IT auditing.
- Physical ability to perform garage work.
Skills (Desirable):
- Operation of front loader and forklift truck.
Knowledge (Essential):
- LGV inspection and testing standards.
- Fault diagnosis of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Commercial garage operations and MOT legislation.
Knowledge (Desirable):
- Light vehicle maintenance and repair.
- Commercial fleet operation and legislation.
Experience (Essential):
- Minimum 5 years of practical mechanical maintenance of HGV commercial vehicles.
Experience (Desirable):
- Light vehicle service and repair.
- Maintenance of waste vehicles and road sweepers.
- Operation of garage management and ordering software.
Qualifications (Essential):
- City and Guilds Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair level 3 or equivalent.
- LGV Class C driving license.
Qualifications (Desirable):
- Uptodate MOT tester's qualification.
- Vehicle inspection accreditation.
- Operator's CPC qualification.
- Assessment and writing of risk assessments.
