SUMMARY OF THE ROLE


We are also offering a
GOLDEN HELLO of £250 to new employees who join us from the 1st Nov once they reach 3 MONTHS successfully.

This will be given at the discretion of the manager.


A senior carer normally has worked previously as a care assistant and is now ready to take on more responsibility.

You will still work closely with the vulnerable adults and deliver hands on care but you will also be leading and guiding a team of carers.

You will build solid relationships and trust with the vulnerable service users, sometimes in challenging situations. You will be trained in more advanced aspects of care such as medication administration and more documentation.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:


Accountable to:
Home Manager, Deputy Manager, Nurses, Head of Care, Team Leaders


CARE:

  • To support service users who require your support with washing, dressing, toileting and continence care.
  • To support service users with oral, hair and nail care.
  • To support service users with nutrition and hydration requirements as needed.
  • To enable service users with swallowing difficulties or co-ordination problems to take nourishment. To understand the importance of fluid balance ensuring all service users have an acceptable fluid intake.
  • To support service users with limited mobility or physical disabilities.
  • To care for service users who are unwell in providing bed care where needed.
  • Participate in social events and in-house activities and community activities.
  • Support service users who are on palliative care.
  • To administer medication (if medication trained), daily stock count for tablets, follow policy and procedures with any medication error, responding to GP and OPMH instructions, being aware of Warfarin policy.
  • To respond to the call bell system, answer the front door to visitors and answer the telephone as needed in a polite manner.
  • To provide care in accordance with current best practice, according to policy and procedures, agreed standards, legislative requirements, relevant regulations under the direction of the Manager, and within the financial plans agreed from time-to-time.
  • To make safe any area of risk and report immediately, cleaning up spills to avoid risk.
  • To understand the principles of infection control - being able to dispose of infected materials safely.
  • To at all times behave in a manner that is caring and professional when managing service users, their families and relevant others including Health Professionals and colleagues.
  • To encourage innovative methods for the delivery of care.
  • To ensure Resident rights are protected.
  • To carry out any other duties which are reasonably asked of you.

LEADERSHIP:


  • Assist in the development of the philosophy, goals and objectives for the care practice.
  • Assist individual staff members to develop in their roles and levels of compliance with agreed standards.
  • Assist in the assessment of the effectiveness of care implementation and delivery
  • To support other staff in the planning and delivering of personal care, to ensure that all documentation relating to such care as required by the legislation for CQC is maintained accurately through reporting/documenting.
  • To support trained staff with the training and development of less experienced /new members of staff and work through an induction with new starters.
  • To monitor new staff members and feedback to Manager.
  • To be involved in care plan updates. To understand the function of a care plan and ensure they are followed. To accurately record weights as required for the person and MUST scoring is adhered to.
  • To be accountable for record keeping and reporting, to ensure that all records are completed before leaving shift.

GENERAL:


  • To make visitors feel welcome offering them beverages and support should they require this.
  • To effectively write and read reports, daily notes and attend meetings when required.
  • To take instruction from those in charge on shift or more senior than you - i.e. the manager, deputy, nurses, head of care, Team Leaders.
  • To actively participate in all mandatory training within the home and such other training as is deemed relevant to the well-being of the home, this being in accordance with legislation and regulations laid down by appropriate authorities.
  • To assist in the implementation of policies and procedures and the home's Quality Assurance program.
  • To report any concerns or general feedback to the senior team.
  • To be aware of Health & Safety issues, with regard to you, other members of staff and service users. Each person has a duty of care to themselves and others. Any equipment should not be used without prope
