    Introduction


The Chamber and Participation Team (CPT) brings together all the disciplines that support the House of Commons Chamber within one clear structure.

The procedural offices that facilitate the core function of legislating, the operational teams who focus on ensuring that the Chamber runs effectively and efficiently, and the public-facing teams who promote Parliament's role and seek to engage citizens across the UK with parliamentary business.


The Public Enquiries Team sits within CPT and plays a key role in creating public understanding of, and engagement with, the work of the House of Commons and UK Parliament more broadly, through our public enquiry service and the provision of online and print content.


The Role
Some key responsibilities for this role include;

  • Research and answer written and telephone enquiries from members of the public on the work, history and membership of the House of Commons.
  • Management of enquiries including processing and allocating enquiries to team colleagues, preparing weekly rotas, and collating daily and monthly statistics.
  • Managing and updating team records and resources.
  • C
hecking, drafting or editing content about the House of Commons in resources produced by Participation teams.

  • Maintaining or establishing good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enable successful knowledge sharing and promotion of our services and publications.
  • Being an advocate for diversifying Parliament's audiences and ensuring accessibility of our services and resources.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience of providing excellent customer service and the ability to handle challenging situations confidently and professionally whilst upholding the values of equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including effective proofreading skills and the ability to adapt communication styles to different public audiences.
  • Good research skills, including the ability to identify and effectively search appropriate sources.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage your workload effectively to meet team targets.
  • An interest in House of Commons procedure and practice with the ability to quickly develop a good understanding in this area.
