Design Consultant


The height safety industry is very specialised and unique, and due to constant growth STQ Vantage has a rewarding performance focused career opportunity for a project preparation/coordination role with our office team.


We're looking for an enthusiastic Design Consultant / draughtsperson, who enjoys discussing solutions with customers, and has a clear understanding of construction and associated materials.


STQ Vantage works with clients mainly based in Southern England to design and install fall-protection systems, with a highly responsive customer service.

The role is office-based in Yeovil, Somerset.


Responsibilities

Technical Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing customer enquiries and requirements, and designing suitable fallprotection and access equipment solutions and layout designs. In the majority of instances you will use our proprietary systems to create the design layout, and in other situations you will be required to design bespoke safety equipment units and components.
  • Discussing and collaborating with the sales team and estimating team to agree on suitable designs.
  • Discussing and agreeing designs detail with clients.
  • Drawing the designs in AutoCAD LT for the estimating team to quote from.

People Duties

  • Receive enquiries from salespeople, agree requirements and determine which product will best solve the client's needs.
  • Liaise with customers over the design where clarification is required or sufficient detail isn't available.
  • Discuss designs with estimators and project managers, and create drawings or amendments as required
  • Liaise with suppliers for information on products in view of creating your design.
  • Collaborate with third party contractors when integrating our design with their equipment.

Skills & Experience Profile:


Essential
Demonstrable experience of liaising with colleagues in Construction or related fields including:

  • CAD software experience
  • Previous handson construction and/or metal fabrication experience
  • Effective and confident collaboration with colleagues, discussing technical designs
  • Agreeing scope and designs of work
  • Ability to solve problems and make decisions

Desirable

  • Experience in construction industry
  • Education and training in construction / engineering

Other duties may include

  • May get involved in compiling quote proposals
  • Site survey visits to measureup or determine the exact customer requirements
  • Assisting with estimating the projects depending on workload
