This post is for a bank practitioner position, however the successful applicant will be required to work core hours of for 3 days a week. This is to cover maternity leave until the end of the school year in July 2024.
There may be a chance of contracted hours in the future.
Purpose of job:
- To adhere to and be familiar with the policies and procedures of Saplings and comply with the Children Act, Health and Safety legislation within the guidelines of OFSTED and the EYFS Welfare requirements
- To provide a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children placed in Saplings
- To give support to other staff in Saplings promoting positive values and adhering to the ethos of the setting at all times
- To implement the daily routine within Saplings, preparing and supervising organised and structured activities
- Contribute to and maintain an attractive and welcoming environment
- To maintain strict confidentiality at all times
- To liaise with Senco as appropriate to meet the needs of the children
- Saplings is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children. It is a requirement of all staff that they share this commitment and follow the prescribed policies and procedures to continuously promote a culture of safeguarding across the setting
Main duties:
Key Decision Making Areas
3 days per week until the end of July.
To offer all children equal opportunities with regard to their religious persuasion, racial origins, gender, disabilities, cultural or linguistic background; in particular, challenge situations where racism or discrimination is displayed
To interact with, listen to, encourage and stimulate the children at all times
To carry out such other duties as required by the Supervisor, Deputy Manager and Manager
Partnership with Parents
To be responsible for observations of the children under the key worker system, maintaining records and reporting children's progress to parents, the Supervisor, Deputy Manager, Manager and Directors as appropriate
Staff Management and Teamwork
To participate in activities and to meet children's individual needs, so that all aspects of the child's physical, intellectual, emotional and social development are met in a stimulating environment
To attend training sessions as required
To attend half termly staff meetings outside of your usual working hours
To work between the hours of 7:45am-5pm as agreed with the Manager
To be involved in occasional out-of-working hours activities as appropriate and as directed by the Supervisor, Deputy Manager and Manager
Health, Welfare and Safety
To ensure the safety and physical and emotional security of all children, bringing to the attention of the Supervisor, Deputy Manager, Manager or Directors any concerns or worries, and arranging immediate first aid when appropriate
To ensure there is positive and consistent management of children's behaviour
To ensure all toys, equipment rooms and play areas are kept safe and hygienic at all times and as clean and tidy as is practicable
Under the supervision of senior staff, to assist in the preparation of materials and equipment at the start of each session
To clear equipment away after use and help ensure all toys, equipment, rooms and play areas are kept safe and hygienic at all times and as clean and tidy as is practicable
To supervise meals and mealtimes and, where appropriate, prepare babies' bottles
To attend to the physical needs of the children including washing, changing, nappy changing, toilet training / supervision and feeding
To take children out of Saplings on activity visits e.g. shopping, park and act in loco parentis in the absence of the parents
To attend to any laundry duties
To be aware of the emergency procedures, first aid box and accident procedures
To report to the Supervisor any safety concerns or equipment needing repair or replacement
To maintain and use a tablet/devise appropriately to update Tapestry
Essential for the post:
- Understanding of children's needs and child development
- Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, parents and children.
- Willingness to undertake training
- Friendly and flexible attitude
Desirable for the post:
- NVQ level 3 or equivalent in Early Years Care and Education
- Pediatric first aid and food safety certificate, up to date safeguarding knowledge
- Experience of working with young children under
- Ability to work on own initiative
