Thetford is a growing town that prides itself on the facilities and open spaces that it

provides to residents and visitors. The Town Team, who play a critical role in the

work that the Council does in these areas, needs to expand the services that it

provides.

The Council is seeking two "Town Team" members to join its team of 4 staff

members. The position, which is mainly Monday to Friday, is based on a 37- hour

week. There may be additional hours that need to be worked on weekends for

emergencies or to support town team events, but these will be occasional.

As this is a public facing role you should be enthusiastic, have good people skills and

share a collective pride in our town.

The position would suit a person who enjoys working outside, who is flexible and

willing to undertake diverse tasks, and who thrives working in a small team.

Part of the interview process will be a short test on carrying out a risk assessment.

The post is 37 hours per week.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • JOB PURPOSE: _
  • Work within the town team maintaining street furniture, Council buildings, open spaces, allotments and the Cemetery, including the carrying out of both routine and emergency repairs to council assets. Promote the cleanliness of the town. Assist with council town events on an occasional basis.
  • INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITIES:_
  • Maintaining street furniture as per maintenance programme
  • Leading volunteer groups who assist the Council in conservation, asset cleaning and planting activities.
  • Ensuring high levels of cleanliness in town centre and other council assets
  • Assisting with the Cemetery, maintaining Council planters and flower baskets, preparing for the annual Thetford in Bloom competition and assisting the Allotment Officer as and when needed.
  • Assisting in cleaning and monitoring the works yard situated at the Cemetery.
  • Liaising with the public, providing advice and support and positively engaging with the community.
  • Undertaking statutory compliance relating to fire safety and legionella testing. Also monitoring and promotion of health and safety of all public assets and areas, reporting any issues appropriately
  • Responsibility for health and safety of all works areas.
  • Assisting with the setting up and running of the councils four town events a year.
  • Assisting with the town's Floral Displays and the Floral Display team.
  • Carry out any other reasonable tasks within the remit of the Town Council on the lawful instruction of the Town Clerk.

  • Regular appraisals against objectives that are specific to the post and agreed annually.
  • Demonstration of compliance with Council policies and statutory requirements.
  • Demonstration of meeting indicators outlined within the competency framework.
  • Demonstration of ability to support and work in a team.
