The role of the Health Care Assistant is to assist the qualified nurse to:

Provide direct care and support to the patient as delegated by the qualified nurse.
Maintain a clean safe environment for patients and relatives.
Assist with clerical and housekeeping duties.
Contribute to maintaining the unit's philosophy of care.
To be able to work in a learning environment, providing a high standard of nursing care and support.
To work flexibly according to the needs of the department and to support outpatients services across site where required.

As a member of the nursing team participates in establishing a good working environment in which patients receive a quality service.

Demonstrate a sensitive and caring attitude towards patients and their relatives and friends.
Take an active role in maintaining effective communication with all disciplines, patients and relatives.
Promotes positive health by assisting clients to be selfcaring.
Participate in introducing new members of staff to the department and supporting other team members.
Contribute to the maintenance of security and confidentiality.
Demonstrate a responsible attitude towards ensuring the effective and efficient use of resources.
Work within trusts and unit policies and practices.
Contributes to the health and safety of the care environment.

Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust provides a range of medical services to approximately 490,000 people living across southwest London and northeast Surrey.
