Description

The Apprentice Animal Keeper main duties will include:

  • Assist in day to day care of animals to include feeding etc
  • Daily health checks on animals
  • Cleaning and sanitizing of enclosures
  • Adhering to H and S policies SSOW and risk assessments
  • Dealing with the public with general enquiries
  • Possibly doing animal encounters and public talks
  • Administering medicine, measuring weights etc under direction of senior staff
  • Build and provide enrichment for variety of animals
  • General site maintenance and cleaning/tidying
Desired qualifications
GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths, English and IT required
Previous experience in the sector would be beneficial

Training

  • Training provider BISHOP BURTON COLLEGE
  • Level 2 Animal Care & Welfare Assistant apprenticeship standard, which includes:
  • Level 1/2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)
  • End-Point Assessment (EPA)
  • Day release at Riseholme College
  • Training will be provided mostly in the workplace with an assessor coming to visit on a regular basis to do workbased reviews, assessments, and observations.
  • Apprenticeship standardAnimal care and welfare assistant
  • Level 2 (GCSE)
