As East London's oldest healthcare charity, Barts Charity has been at the forefront of advancing healthcare for hundreds of years.

The hospitals we support strive to provide excellent care to their patients. Yet too many people's lives in East London are affected by ill health.

At Barts Charity we have East London in our hearts, and we want healthier, longer lives for everyone in our community.

Together with our Partner institutions we make better healthcare possible, funding brilliant ideas and ground-breaking research to transform lives.


In 2022, we started our new five-year strategy with an ambitious funding programme of £150m+ of giving from We have already supported some transformative projects in the first year of this strategy including £14.2m to a Clinical Research Facility at The Royal London in Whitechapel which will bring innovative trials closer to the people of East London and £6.6m to establish an Academic Centre for Healthy Ageing at Whipps Cross Hospital.

In this exciting context, we are looking to appoint our next Chair. Someone who can support us as we continue to grow our profile and impact.

You must have operated at a very senior level in your field of expertise and have the capacity and willingness to devote sufficient time to the Charity.

Critically, you must have a strong and visible passion and commitment for our Vision and Mission.
