MEDICAL RECEPTIONIST


REPORTING TO:
Practice Manager


HOURS OF WORK:
25 hours per week

Between the hours of pm Mon to Friday - (set shift pattern to be agreed with successful applicant)


SALARY:

TBC
Plus Pension scheme provided


Main Purpose of the Job


The main duties of the post holder will be to provide a GP Receptionist service to the Surgery and fulfil all related clerical, scanning and administrative tasks.


Key duties of the Job

  • To deliver an excellent standard of administrative support to GPs working within the surgery/centre
  • To be able to demonstrate the required degree of accuracy and attention to detail to meet the needs of the post.
  • Ability to work in a busy, challenging environment.
  • To receive patients and visitors in a polite and friendly manner.
  • To effectively manage arrangements for all patient appointments, dealing efficiently with associated enquiries
  • Preparation of acute and repeat prescription request as per surgery protocol as and when required.
  • To maintain confidentiality at all times
  • To maintain accurate patient records in an efficient and effective manner in keeping with surgery requirements
  • To deliver and maintain a high level of customer care in all aspects of patient contact
  • To comply with all record keeping requirements within the surgery
  • To input and assist in the maintenance of the existing computer databases
  • Read coding of clinical documents as per agreed protocols
  • To liaise with outside agencies within the wider primary care health team
  • To effectively process incoming and outgoing mail as per surgery protocol
  • Scanning of documents on to the clinical system as per surgery protocol.
  • To provide other administrative support including typing of letters, reports, memos, filing, photocopying, preparing new patients clinical records etc
  • To be available to provide additional relief cover for colleagues and have a degree of flexibility.
  • To comply with existing procedures and protocols
  • To comply with Health and Safety at work legislation
  • To act as a key holder with responsibility for opening & locking premises as required
  • To undertake relevant training as required for the post.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Criteria
English Language with medical reception experience
OR
NVQ/GNVQ Level 2 Business Administration plus a minimum of one year's experience working in an administrative role.
OR
A minimum of two year's recent relevant experience in an administrative/ office setting


  • To be IT literate with a minimum of 6 month's experience of working effectively with Windows Programmes or equivalent
  • To possess effective communication skills.
  • To demonstrate an understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for discretion and confidentiality.
  • To be polite and courteous towards patients, colleagues and all visitors to the practice and on the telephone
  • To demonstrate an ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
  • To demonstrate an ability to prioritise workload
  • To demonstrate an approach to work which is flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the service
  • To demonstrate an approach to work which is both collaborative and co
- operative


  • To carry out all duties in a reliable and consistent manner

Desirable Criteria

  • Recent work experience within the Health Service/Gp Practice
