    Starting Salary £13,375 £20, £26,750 £29,424 After 1 Years' service £13,625 £20, £27,250 £29,974 After 2 Years' service £14,375 £21, £28,750 £31,624 After 4 Years' service £14,875 £22, £29,750 £32,525Please note that 44hour contracts are only available after successful completion of your initial training course and will be allocated accordingly depending upon eligibility criteria
  • During your first 12 weeks of employment you will be required to work 40 hours per week to complete your initial training course, which you will be compensated for at full time rate (equivalent to £26,750 per annum, prorated for the duration of the ITC). _
  • Upon successful completion of the ITC you will move onto your contracted_ 30 hour per week shift pattern._

The philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate prisoners and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. The people in your care will have a variety of different needs and it will be your role to ensure those individuals are treated with dignity and respect and helped to find a new way of life whilst maintaining a safe, secure and structured environment.


You will play a key role in providing prisoners with structure and routine, making sure they get to work in the morning within the Prison, are actively engaging in education or work and the prison regime and are secure in their cell in the evening.

Your initial training course (ITC) for a minimum of 12 weeks, where you will receive comprehensive training, which includes Control & Restraint, First Aid, Interpersonal skills and Health & Safety, including a shadowing period working alongside qualified PCOs to gain real on the job experience

As a PCO you will work a variety of shifts, including weekends, evenings and nights. All shifts are on a rolling pattern and agreed in advance. Any change to shift patterns will be communicated clearly with a minimum of 30 days notice.
