We are seeking a highly competent and professional Public Relations specialist in this full-time role.

About the Role


We are looking for a Public Relations Specialist to promote the work and mission of the organisation at home and overseas and to seek thought leadership and profiling opportunities for The General and other International Leaders.


Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Public Relations planning: In conjunction with the Head of Communications, develop a PR plan to include strategy, goals, budget, and tactics to achieve high-level placements in print, broadcast, and online media across international, national and local media to meet the purpose of the role (above).
  • Manage the Annual Public Relations calendar.
  • Lead on Public Relations campaigns.
  • Seek opportunities for 'thought leadership' (especially on Linked In), to showcase the international work of The Salvation Army.
  • Develop issueled media hooks capitalising on issues that can provide a platform for social media engagement.
  • Media Relations: Leverage existing media relationships and cultivate new contacts, managing all media inquiries and interview requests.
  • Draft press releases, byline articles and keynote presentations.
  • Communicate efficiently and effectively with stakeholders, journalists and overseas colleagues.
  • Draft various types of written content (including but not limited to International News Bulletins, News Releases, and copy) and update reports and some digital platforms in a timely manner.
  • Provide PR support with podcasts.

About You
This will be an exciting, exacting and sometimes demanding role, requiring experience and a highly organised, professional approach.

You will have experience in a professional-related working environment or have relevant experience in a professional public relations role, most likely in-house.

You will be possessed of excellent media relations skills and experience.


You will have:

  • Have significant experience in an inhouse Public Relations role at a midseniority level
  • Be able to demonstrate relevant professional membership and show evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Be possessed of the gravitas necessary to advise Csuite level colleagues
  • Excellent written and spoken English (there will be a skills test as part of the recruitment process)
The charity is a close-knit and expanding communications team working in an international context with a global audience. Some international travel may be required.
