Fellowship in Ophthalmic Anaesthesia and Day Case surgery, Moorfields Eye Hospital

Applications are welcomed for the post of senior clinical fellow in ophthalmic anaesthesia.

The post is full-time for 6 months in the first instance, the start date to be decided mutually.

This is an opportunity to gain experience in day case surgery and TIVA, whilst covering all aspects of ophthalmic anaesthesia.

These include advanced sedation and local anaesthetic techniques.

A substantial amount of paediatric work takes place at Moorfields & consequently there will be many occasions for managing the care of children as young as 4 weeks.

and paediatric ophthalmic anaesthesia.

Time will be available for non-clinical work such as research and quality improvement.

The anaesthetic service has 20 Anaesthetists and up to 6 junior staff.

The post-holder will be expected to undertake approximately eight sessions per week; the number to be allocated to research or clinical commitments is to be by mutual agreement - usually at least one day a week is put aside for non-clinical activity.

Although the clinical sessions will be fixed in time, their content will be flexible to reflect the needs of the department.

It is anticipated that the post-holder will join the ST on-call rota.

The post holder will be responsible for providing pre-operative assessment, general and local anaesthesia and/or sedation to patients requiring surgery, all of whom are day care patients.

Holding the emergency bleep and attending medical emergency calls.

The post-holder will join the ST on-call rota.

The post-holder will contribute to quality improvement, teaching and research/management within the department.
