Activities and Responsibilities of the Post
Principle Purpose of the role
Applications are invited for the above post within the Joint Digital Forensic Unit at Halesworth.
The successful applicant will be responsible for extracting data from Mobile Devices and associated digital media devices utilising MSAB, Celebrite and Oxygen forensic software, ensuring a fully validated, evidentially sound product is produced for the investigating officer.
This is offered as a development role starting at a Band D and moving to Band E upon successful completion of training and mentoring programme.
Main Activities of the Role
- Conduct forensic acquisition of new and redundant devices and, where applicable, secure, disassemble, retrieve and examine data in accordance with ISO 17025, RIPA, CPIA, Forensics 21 and MOPI legislation and ISO 17025 accreditation along with any applicable codes, utilising proprietary or bespoke software
- Acquire and interrogate mobile device based hardware/software and digital data to evidential standards
- Ensure that the collection and forensic processing of digital evidence/material is undertaken in accordance with the relevant legislation, policy, protocols and codes of practice (eg RIPA, CPIA, Forensics 21, MoPI, and ISO 17025 along with any applicable codes)
- Protect and advise on the continuity of evidence from the point of receipt and maintain records and provide statements as required
- Under supervision, produce auditable evidence and exhibits in a legally admissible format, which can be evaluated by third parties and attend court to give evidence as required
- Maintain up to date technical knowledge and provide specialist advice and guidance to colleagues, partners and other forensic practitioners particularly around emerging digital devices and technologies in support of organisational objectives and compliance with policy
- Any other duties commensurate with the role and grade as may reasonably be required by line management
Person Specification
It is essential that applicants meet the following criteria:
- Strong interpersonal skills with the proven ability to communication at all levels and establish good working relationships with colleagues, external partners and other agencies
- Proven ability to work accurately, with close attention to detail, to use initiative and to manage a caseload within stated deadlines, prioritising and reviewing progress as necessary
- Ability and commitment to successfully undertake an indepth and long term programme of learning and professional development, including independent learning
- Ability to demonstrate an investigative mindset
- Ability to travel throughout Norfolk & Suffolk
- Qualified to degree standard in a Computer Science related discipline or previous experience in digital forensics including the retrieval, analysis and processing of data from mobile devices
- Ability to recognise and assemble/connect specialist technical equipment together with a practical knowledge of mobile phone technology, and an understanding of related legislation
- Understanding of exhibit handling and continuity of evidence
- Experience of ISO Quality Management Standards
- Proven experience in working with mobile communication devices and technologies, networks and operating systems including android, IOS and Microsoft
- Proven experience of analysing data using forensic software tools including Cellebrite, Axiom, XRY, Oxygen

- Whilst the role is normally based at the aforementioned location, you may be required to work at other establishments across both Norfolk and Suffolk Constabularies as may be reasonably required. Police Staff Conditions of Service will be adhered to in such instances
