The role involves managing the property and financial affairs of a number of vulnerable adults living in Solihull who lack the mental capacity to manage their own finances, either through an Appointeeship granted by the DWP, or a Deputyship granted by theCoP.

The workplan for the role will be agreed with the Team Manager and will focus on the delivery of quality accountancy services to customers, officers and members, covering the following areas:

  • Submit completed referrals to the relevant body, and follow up progress as necessary
  • Liaise as appropriate with other parties if deputyships are transferred or client regains capacity.
  • Liaise with executors of the estate on the death of any client, and ensure the necessary activities are carried out to administer and distribute the estate
  • Ensure deputyship client assets (cash, pensions etc.) are safeguarded once deputyship is granted
  • Manage the receipt of all cash and other funds for client and collection of benefits, pensions income etc. for coding to SMBC's balance sheet
  • Ensure client financial records are effectively maintained, and complete and promptly submit annual returns required for each deputyship client by the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG)
  • Process, and manage appropriately, the payment of costs, allowances and care contributions for clients, from client funds reimbursing ASC care budgets from backdated amounts, if required.
