As a
Consultant in the
Climate Market Team you will be responsible for contributing substantially to business development and project management, as well as providing technical consultancy inputs and services.

Our team works across the developing world to win, deliver, and evaluate projects focused on climate mitigation and adaptation, renewable energy, natural resource management, land and coastal conservation, and climate policy and finance.


Based in the UK, this role will have a focus on the UK client base but will support projects and bids for other clients across the NIRAS network.

You will work as a part of our team of Project and Bid Managers to develop innovative and well-structured solutions to client needs.

You will be expected to be accountable for the delivery of international assignments involving teams of in-house and external consultants, and will work with compliance staff across the NIRAS group to ensure projects are managed in line with integrity standards, quality expectations, value for money, and with effective risk management.


As a Consultant, you will have specific responsibility for:

Business Development

  • Contributing to go/nogo assessments for bid opportunities and on mobilising organisational resources for pursuit of high priority opportunities
  • Overseeing all aspects of bid development processes ensuring adequate resources are available to develop the bid
  • Coordinating the selection of best fit partners and team members, the development of technical content, and creation of technical and financial proposals
  • Undertaking scoping, background, and market research in relation to specific opportunities to help inform, prepare, and develop specific bids and tender opportunities
  • Developing clear, well structured, and compelling documents to convey NIRAS' approach, team, and capabilities to donors and clients

Project Delivery

  • Coordinating all aspects of project delivery including timely and quality delivery of outputs, contracting and personnel, financial and contractual compliance, budgeting, risk management, partnership and client management, and adherence to workplans and budgets
  • Collaborating with NIRAS' staff and field project teams to achieve project objectives and daily execution of implementation tasks
  • Developing strong client and partner relationships and providing high level technical advice and analysis to project teams as required
  • Ensuring that projects are compliant with NIRAS project management systems and processes
  • Managing human resources and recruitment for key positions

Consultancy

  • Delivering research, data collection and analysis, and consulting and advising clients and stakeholders
  • Delivering high quality, high value, consultancy as a team member or coordinator of a small team
  • Adopting a clientoriented approach that enables the identification of new business opportunities from existing work or client interactions
  • Building knowledge and expertise within identified areas of interest

To excel in this position, you will have:

  • A passion for international development and the climate sector
  • A relevant Master's degree, with at least 3 years' experience of working in the international development or climate change sectors
  • Experience of climate mitigation or adaptation topics, climate finance, climate policy, natural resource management, coastal or landbased conservation, renewable and/or clean energy, and/or other related low carbon, climate resilient fields
  • Experience in contributing to, or bid managing tender opportunities in the international development sector
  • The ability to quickly and effectively analyse and synthesise large volumes of information, and disseminate it in an efficient manner
  • Experience in developing and working with financial information and developing/man
