Remuneration: £120 per sampling day / 45 sampling days per quarter / roughly 15 days per month (4 hours per sampling day - travel time not included)
About the project:
Catchwise will be the biggest single study of sea angling undertaken for over a decade.
This is an exciting opportunity to work closely together with the recreational fisheries sector and other stakeholders within marine management.
The post forms part of the Catchwise project funded through the Fisheries Science Industry Partnership (FISP) and will involve collaboration with the projects partners, Substance and Cefas.
The aim of this research is to deliver a site-based, face-to-face survey of shore anglers and those fishing from private boats and kayaks across England and Wales.
Surveying will be delivered by 11 contractor surveyors and up to 150 volunteer citizen scientists to assist with the research which aims to enhance partnerships between research and the recreational fishing sector.
About the role:
The Angling Trust is seeking highly motivated, organised and experienced individuals who have experience in face-to-face surveying to deliver an exciting nationwide sea angling research project - Catchwise.
East of England region, covering the coastline from Thames River to River Great Ouse (full time, 45days/quarter), or the half of the region (part-time, 22-23 days/quarter)
Field Surveyors are required to do 45 surveying days per quarter. Working days consist of 4 hours of surveying plus travel.
Prior experience in scientific or social science surveying would be desirable.
Good communication skills, and the ability to work independently as well as with other members of the research team are essential.
Responsibilities include conducting face-to-face, site-based surveys which will be randomly allocated to you throughout a designated region. Survey data will be entered via online survey app which Substance will manage.Other responsibilities will include liaising with the local angling community, project coordinator and volunteer teams, attending training sessions, and reporting your activities to a central system.
The posts are for self-employed contractors and will therefore be responsible for their own tax, national insurance and pension contributions.
Full training will be provided, but previous experience and knowledge of face-to-face survey techniques are essential.
Use of own car is essential, as is a willingness to travel long distances on occasions, work some weekends and occasional unsociable hours.
