Job Description and Qualifications

(PURPOSE)
The job holder will work within the UKIN EHS team to provide timely, accurate and pertinent EHS support to the managers and supervisors responsible for implementing the company's EHS Management System and for compliance with national legislation across the UK, Ireland & Norway Industrial Gases business


This includes:
coaching in Behavioural Safety and Human Factors, training in Life Saving Standards, advising on workplace risk assessments, accident and incident investigation, environmental compliance advice; proactive identification and management of emerging EHS management system issues,

people, as well as the products, processes, markets and businesses served.


PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
-
Facilitate the implementation** of new or revised Global or local company EHS Standards and training materials; to participate when requested in the revision of the Global material.

  • Assist Line Management ensure that
    all incidents are adequately investigated, and effective corrective actions are implemented. For High Significance incidents engage personally and directly with Root Cause investigation team to ensure thorough, consistent approach especially regarding
    Behavioural Safety and
    Human Factors.
  • Assist in developing
    risk assessments necessitated, working with Process Safety and Central Technical resources as required.
  • Develop
    safety initiatives to address observed trends in incident or other safety data and manage their implementation.
  • Participating in the EHS selfassessment and
    audit process and assisting Line Management to identify and implement preventive or corrective actions arising from those audits.
  • Support the requirements if ISO45001 as per the EHS Job Dimension UKIOHS0104.

KEY INTERFACES (Internal and External)

Internal:

Must be able to engage and communicate effectively with all levels of the company organisation (operators, supervisors, site managers, drivers, customer engineering, Business Area General Managers, Operational Managers and Line Managers).

Be the first point of EHS support for site managers as defined in the EHS Job Dimensions.


Able to engage and liaise with Project Managers, all support functional staff (HR, Insurance, Procurement, Communications, Legal etc.), Engineering and construction.

Provides credible and useful support to site managers for Regulatory inspections.


External:

Have the poise, credibility and technical knowledge to communicate and underline Air Products positions on EHS issues with customers (on exception basis only).

Be able to communicate succinctly and effectively with Emergency Services and Authorities (for example in incident investigations or inspections).


KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Experience working in; operations or maintenance roles and/or working independently in an EHS support or functional role.

Engineering background and Bachelors' degree is preferred, or equivalent qualification with demonstrated relevant technical experience.

A formal qualification in Occupational Safety & Health (i.e.
NEBOSH Diploma in UK) or an equivalent expertise acquired through experience in an Industrial Gas Company is mandatory. Demonstrable involvement or ideally
leadership in behavioural safety is desired.


A broad knowledge of EHS management systems and of the processes, technologies and equipment in use and their potential hazards is desired.

An in-depth practical understanding of at least one client business.


Detailed understanding of most of these operating/business areas is beneficial; cylinder filling operations, distribution of dangerous goods, gas or chemical process plant operation, engineering/maintenance/technician support, bulk distribution.

Excellent communication and
influencing skills are a major requirement for the job holder.


SUPERVISION
No direct supervision of others.

Responsible for indirectly influencing client organisations to encourage dialogue, develop relationships and coach to improve client EHS engagement, performance and compliance.


ASSIGNMENT AND REVIEW OF WORK
The majority of the work is delivered within a specific framework documented in annual appraisal objectives (e.g. training sessions, safety audits, shutdown safety supervision, etc). Within this framework, the job holder must organise and determine how to plan and execute the work.


The job holder maintains a close link with the EHS manager, other team members and with the line managers of the organisations they are supporting to plan and manage workload independently, responding to suit changing customer priorities.
