Position Summary

  • To assist in the delivery of care, planned and assessed by Senior Health Care Assistants and Registered Nurses by directly providing practical, physical, social and emotional care.
  • Supporting all residents in a manner sensitive to each individual's needs and wishes, acknowledging their rights and beliefs at all times.
Main Duties

  • Provide and deliver a high standard of nursing, care (i.e. washing, mouth care, toileting, manual handling & mobility), recognising and meeting the specific needs of residents. With indirect supervision, to manage own clinical workload within the givencompetencies of the post.
  • Support residents who may have a wide range of differing requirements and whose needs may range from companionship and domestic support to personal care.
  • Join and assist in hobbies or crafts.
  • Accompany residents to appointments.
  • Write and maintain accurate records of care on a daily basis, maintaining fluid balance and dietary charts, recognising, recording and reporting all adverse findings to nurses.
  • Support nutritional needs of resident's by assisting with feeding and drinking, reporting on concerns about dietary intake to nurses.
  • Assist in the care of maintaining skin integrity over pressure points, recognising and reporting all adverse findings to nurses.
  • Report untoward incidents such as complaints/injury's, and if there are any changes or causes of concern in a resident's condition.
  • When required and once fully trained, assist with prescribed medication and accurately complete Medication Administration Records (MAR charts) in accordance with policies and procedures, where this is part of the care plan.
  • Communicate with family, friends and other healthcare professionals on the resident's behalf.
  • Participate actively in supporting the principles and practice of equality and diversity.
  • Promote and safeguard the wellbeing of residents, their families and colleagues.
  • Act as a mentor to new Health Care Assistants participating in induction programmes, and ongoing development of their practice.
  • Recognise the importance of health education, teach carers and inform nurses where this might be required.
  • Share responsibility for the cleanliness, care and maintenance of all the equipment.
Other Responsibilities

  • Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job, participate in an annual appraisal and appropriate training activities, encourage and support colleague's development and training. To attend mandatory training.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to policies and procedures mindful of responsibilities to self, colleagues and residents.
  • Respect the confidentiality of all matters that you may learn relating to your employment and other colleagues. Respect the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulations 201
  • Be responsible for ensuring risk is managed effectively and appropriate action taken where necessary to minimise risks to the care home.
  • Be aware of the implications of Health & Safety policies, which affect direct and indirect aspects of care
