Customs Trainer & Subject Matter Expert - Newtownabbey - £29,500

The company is a privately owned business, part of the Ballyvesey Holdings Group that has grown significantly in recent years, now providing a diverse range of Logistics Services throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Montgomery Customs are looking for a Customs Trainer and SME to join their established team in Newtownabbey.


Purpose of the Job


First level of escalation for Customs/Border issues relating to (but not limited to) IMSOC, IPAFFS, TSS, PBN, GVMS, CHIEF, CDS, AIS and AEP systems.

Declarations Technical Assistance. Group Customs Awareness and Development. Training and C.P.D. Special Cases Resolution and Trailer Movement


Key duties and Roles

  • Processing of UK and EU Customs Declarations in a timely fashion, meeting business expectations
  • Awareness of dynamic Border procedures, Brexit, Customs Procedures, International Trade & Transport and legislation
  • Willingness and skillset to complete clearances for all Clients
  • Expediting Full Customs Clearances while maintaining Customs Compliance
  • Deputising for the Brokerage Lead and Customs Project Coordinator when required
  • Data Entry and Customs Brokerage including covering staff absence and out of hours
  • Weekly reports and administrative tasks
  • Willing to work on shift/rota
  • Customer's Operational Reports
  • Clients Customs amendments and adhoc administrative tasks as required by the company
  • Corrective Actions and Preventative Actions for the Customs Dept.
  • Performing a leading role in accuracy and attention to detail with Data Entry and Company Records
  • Correctly filing customs paperwork and electronic records
  • Monitoring the Customs inboxes for jobs and enquiries and responding in a proficient manner within a time that meets the needs of the business
  • Full compliance and acting with paramount integrity when dealing with stakeholders especially governmental and border authorities
  • Positive approach to improving the efficiency of the team; including (but not limited to) training.
  • Customs Management Meeting support and onboarding technical assistance
  • Software testing and implementation
  • Acting as the first level of escalation for customs enquiries
  • Communicating reoccurring issues to management in a timely manner
  • Standing Data & records maintenance
  • Interpretation of Commercial paperwork and Incoterms
  • Any reasonable request by your manager that does not endanger your Health and Safety.

Essential Criteria
Ability to prioritise tasks

Strong IT skills in Microsoft Windows Microsoft Office, spreadsheets &, Databases

Capacity to learn new skills and take direction but work on your own initiative

Good communicator with fluency in written and spoken English

Five GCSEs or equivalent including English and Maths

Strong Customer Service abilities

Willing to work on shift/rota


Desirable Criteria
Level 3 Customs qualification

Previous experience of Traffic Management Systems and bespoke Customs computer software.

IMSOC and IPAFFS experience

Knowledge of UK CHIEF & CDS systems and RoI AIS & AEP systems

Experience in a busy office, particularly in the Transport Industry

Awareness of Brexit, Customs Procedures, International Trade and Transport

TSS PBN and GVMS usage

Ability to interpret Commercial paperwork and Incoterms

£21,600.00 per year
