As Smart Choice Metering continues its exciting growth plans in 2023, We have a new and diverse role available for an experienced HR Manager to join our expanding HR team here in Trafford Park, Manchester.

The HR Manager position is an integral role within the business, working collaboratively with the group HR team.

This role is designed to work in partnership with SCM key stakeholders, developing detailed understanding of specific challenges within theirareas.

A key focus will be delivering proactive people services and successfully implementing the people strategy, that delivers solutions.


Role and Responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • Manage and resolving complex employee relations issues and grievances, eliminating risk to the business
  • Analyse trends and metrics within the HR department, reporting the data effectively and in the most appropriate format
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of people strategies and policies to ensure that they reflect employment law and are aligned with the organisational values, culture and objectives
  • Conducting disciplinary investigations and disciplinary hearings accordingly
  • Working with other group HR team members to develop and deliver changes initiatives and the HR strategy
  • Partnering with key stakeholders to ensure that all projects and initiatives are appropriately communicated and implemented in a timely fashion
  • Supporting managers in making decisions which are consistent with organisational values, policies and practices and are consistently applied
  • Contributing to a positive employee relations culture, respecting formal and informal channels of communication with recognised trade union representatives, whilst also developing new models for communicating and engaging with staff
  • Project planning and manage TUPE exercises ensuring due diligence is carried out
  • Developing project and implementation plans, monitoring progress and escalating issues where required
  • Ensure the absence is managed effectively; monitoring, tracking and carrying out sickness reviews to support management processes
  • Working in partnership with colleagues and key stakeholders to ensure high quality delivery of people services to all areas of and to hold regular service review meetings
  • Support the production of HR updates for all staff, as appropriate, using appropriate platforms of communication, e.g., employee intranet
  • Effective line management of the SCM HR Team, providing development and structure.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:


  • Excellent working knowledge of the key HR areas, with particular emphasis on employee relations, performance management, absence management
  • Excellent, welldeveloped interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to all levels
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work on own initiative as well as being able to work seamlessly within a team, both in person and remotely
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and negotiation skills
  • Significant experience in dealing with complex queries in a timely manner
  • Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to meet deadlines and also have the ability to work under pressure
  • Significant experience of working in a similar HR role in a busy, complex office environment working with stakeholders at all levels
  • A high level of attention to detail is key.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:


  • CIPD Level 5 minimum
