An opportunity has arisen for a Quality Assurance Assistant to join our team on a permanent and full time basis.

This is the ideal role for individuals who relish the opportunity to work as a part of a team in a factory environment.


As a Quality Assurance Assistant you will perform a variety of technical inspections and testing and monitoring tasks to detect processing, manufacturing and other defects.

The post holder will help to develop, implement and enforce security and food safety standards, policies, and regulatory programs, regulatory audits, food safety training programs, standard operating procedures (HACCP, SOP's), product inspections, and standardised work instructions to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements for the production of safe and wholesome food.


The typical tasks will involve:


  • Assisting in developing and managing Quality Assurance systems to achieve a BRC Grade A certification and pass grades for all the other certifying bodies namely: Organic, MSC, Freedom Foods, Kosher, SEG, etc.;
  • Assisting in developing quality assurance plans by conducting hazard analyses; identifying critical control points and preventive measures; establishing critical limits, monitoring procedures, corrective actions, and verification procedures; monitoring inventories;
  • Working alongside the Technical, QA and Production teams assisting them in implementing and maintaining quality and food safety procedures, policies and standards;
  • Taking responsibility for product quality, food safety and staff training of these key areas to satisfy customer expectations.
  • Assisting in maintaining and improving product quality by completing product, company, system, compliance, and surveillance audits; investigating customer complaints; collaborating with other members of management to develop new products and engineering designs, and manufacturing and training methods;
  • Investigating a product / process failure, determining the root cause and taking prompt corrective actions while minimising product exposure and production down time;
  • Preparing quality documentation and reports by collecting, analysing and summarising information and trends including failed processes, recalls, corrective actions, and revalidations;
  • Conducting operational and preoperational food and safety related and sanitation inspections, including micro sampling, inspection of cleanliness of equipment to verify the effectiveness of sanitation activities. The duties may include regular completion of Food Safety, CCP and sanitation paperwork that should ultimately result in no FS deviations. Conducting FMP and Sanitation audits as directed with documented corrective actions and followup, as necessary;
  • Assisting in managing Allergen Preventive Controls Program ensuring accurate allergen labelling on finished food products and prevention of allergen cross contact;
  • Assisting in overseeing the entire production process by looking out for specific problems, minutely observing the units of goods produced for visible defects, performing various tests on the samples drawn, noting down observations and accepting or rejecting lots on the basis of samples checked;
  • Assisting in ensuring that all food handling employees understand and comply with food safety and hygiene standards, procedures and policies, and conduct training where necessary;
  • Assisting in maintaining the traceability system and organising the archiving of all production records to ensure accurate due diligence / BRC audit paperwork;
  • Ensuring all recording equipment is calibrated and used effectively whilst providing full support to the Production team by sharing your expert knowledge on all aspects of quality assurance;
  • Inspecting products upon their arrival against the predefined quality specifications;
  • Ensuring information on product quality is continually fed back to the Technical department and Production Managers.

Minimum experience, training or qualifications required:

  • Ability to display effective communication, listening, influencing and persuading skills at all levels;
  • Confident using computers and computer systems;
  • Knowledge of ISO quality policies and system requirements;
  • Knowledge and understanding of manufacturing operations, quality policies of both business and customer requirements within the fish processing industry.
