Job description


Are you a Engineer interested in working at the cutting edge of weapon technology or the latest armoured fighting vehicles, collaborating with private business and government on a national and international scale? If so, we are actively recruiting Engineersto join our expert Land domain here at DE&S.

You will have the chance to make a difference supporting the UK's Armed Forces, whilst working on high-profile projects with access to world-class training.

In our Land Engineering Division, we need Engineers involved in the delivery and support of our Operating Centres across the following areas:

  • Weapons
  • Munitions and weapon systems ranging from small calibre bombs and bullets through to strategic missile systems.


  • Land Equipment

  • Main battle tanks, selfpropelled howitzers, small calibre pistols, through to military "laser quest" systems.
We operate hybrid working and your duty station can be aligned at any of the following locations, though please note, most Land Equipment roles are Bristol based:

  • MOD Abbey Wood, Filton, Bristol BS34 8JH
  • Defence Munitions Beith, Ayrshire KA15 1JT
  • MOD Boscombe Down, Salisbury, Wiltshire, SP4 0JH


Please note, no matter which duty station you are aligned to, occasional domestic travel to MOD Abbey Wood, Bristol will be required, as well as possible travel to other UK trials sites.

There may also be international travel involved with these roles.


Due to the nature of security requirements, these roles are open to sole UK nationals only and you may be required to undergo Developed Vetting once in post.

**About the role

**In this role, you will have the opportunity to: - Support the planning, witnessing and execution of trials for both Land platforms and Ordnance Munitions and Explosives (OME)

  • Provide professional technical advice, guidance, and support on OME and platforms to stakeholders within and outside DE&S
  • Ensure that DE&S and other MOD customers comply with statutory and MOD regulations, safety standards and best practice, supporting delivery teams in the assessment and management of Land/OME Safety risk
  • Identifying, assessing and exploiting emergent technologies to support the delivery of cuttingedge capability

Person specification

  • Hold a HNC (i.e., Level 4 or higher) qualification in a relevant engineering or science discipline or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience
  • Experience of providing technical advice and delivery of successful engineering outcomes
  • Experience with system/equipment/project safety
In addition to the responsibilities above, the following technical competences and behaviours will be assessed at interview:

  • Technical Requirements, Evaluation and Acceptance (Supervised Practitioner)
  • Technical Decision Making (Supervised Practitioner)
  • Communicating and influencing
  • Making effective decisions
