We are looking an Associate Procurement Director to join our team for a six month fixed term contract.


This is an excellent opportunity to provide strategic leadership and responsibility for delivery of procurement programmes including healthcare services to improve value and quality for member trusts.


This strategic role will be a key driver of value for the NHS and wider public sector through delivering projects, frameworks and call off procurements for customers.


The role will include extensive engagement with our member NHS organisations and other NHS and public sector customers, across a wide range of stakeholders, based locally, regionally and nationally.

Key stakeholders also include Workforce Alliance partners, Integrated Care Systems, NHS Employers.


This is a strategic role which predominately focuses on the healthcare category providing strategic long term procurement strategies, policies and work plans.

You will be the principal expert in all Procurement related matters and lead in relation to UK and European procurement rules.


This role is suitable for someone who is commercially astute and has the capability and drive to provide inspirational leadership.

You will work autonomously, enjoy managing and supporting people to achieve their potential, have a strong customer focus, and will be an active participant in NHS Commercial Solutions and member trusts.

Interviews will be held w/c 5th February 2024 and will either be virtual or at our offices in Dorking.


NHS Commercial Solutions (NHSCS) is a collaborative procurement NHS organisation providing strategic procurement services to NHS organisations within Kent, Hampshire, Surrey, Sussex and further afield.

NHSCS has delivered savings in excess of £270 million working in partnership with trusts and with multiple stakeholders to deliver cash releasing savings, cost and quality improvements across a wide range of categories.

We are hosted by Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

Working from home contracts do not attract high cost area payments.

Job Overview

This is a project-based role for a 6-month fixed term. The Associate Procurement Director will provide inspirational leadership and direction for NHS Commercial Solutions and customers.

The post holder will mainly lead projects on the strategic development of healthcare services projects with responsibility for the strategic development and management of clinical and non-clinical spend across NHS organisations, developing long term procurement strategies, policies and work plans.

You will be the principal expert in all Procurement related matters and lead in relation to UK and European procurement rules.

The Associate Procurement Director will provide strategic leadership and responsibility for multiple procurement programmes to improve value and quality for member trusts.


Key Responsibilities of the role are:

  • Contribute and support the development of the NHS Commercial Solutions offer and services.
  • Devise, implement and continually review the Procurement strategy to ensure innovation and improved value for money from clinical and nonclinical expenditure across NHSCS members and deliver income targets for NHSCS.
  • Produce a Healthcare services Pipeline workplan which is consistent and integrated with the Procurement strategy and Business objectives of NHSCS including being aligned with core member workplans.
  • Lead on selling and delivery of complex procurements covering a broad range of services and products and provide strategic advice to Senior Management and Divisional Leads in member trusts.
  • Evaluate cost saving opportunities by using benchmarking and renegotiation, reengineering and volume leverage.
  • Senior leader in challenging the norm, ensure modernisation of practice, utilising new innovations and improved technology.
  • Leading and being responsible for procurement and projects across member trusts.
  • Working with key stakeholders in developing relevant Networks and Forums.
