An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Adult SLT Department in Harrogate District Hospital as a Specialist Speech & Language Therapist.

The majority of this role includes working on the acute hospital wards to assess patients with swallowing and communication needs.

The Harrogate Hospital SLT team consists of SLTs and SLTAs that cover acute, stroke, critical care, rehab, voice and the community.

There are weekly videofluoroscopy and FEES clinics to refer patients in to as required.

There is also an opportunity for a day of voice and ENT dysphagia.

You will provide specialist input to patients with dysphonia and those who have swallowing difficulties secondary to an ENT aetiology.

There will be opportunities to participate in the ENT SLT voice clinic, supporting the lead voice SLT.

To assess, diagnose, develop, implement and evaluate Specialist Speech and Language Therapy treatment and care programmes/plans for clients with communication, voice and swallowing disorders

To supervise and support SLTAs within the team

To fully contribute to clinical teams both multi-disciplinary and unidisciplinary by discussing own and others input around client needs ensuring a well-co-ordinated care plan

To work independently, managing and prioritising own complex caseload and workload with supervision as necessary.

To provide advice to others regarding the management and care of clients with communication and swallowing difficulties.


To gather and update activity data accurately and regularly, ensuring the provision of such information promptly within Local Trust guidelines.


To provide full clinical Speech and Language Therapy student placements, including assessment of the placements as appropriate within own area of work as well as providing support to students from other professions.

To demonstrate clinical effectiveness by use of evidence based practice and outcome measures.

To demonstrate skills in dealing with complex issues to generate appropriate strategies for caseload management.


Hours: 30 hours per week


Job split:


  • 22.5 hours acute wards in Harrogate Hospital
  • 7.5 hours voice/ENT
