Job Title:
Leisure and Wellbeing Instructor


Reports to:
General Manager and Deputy Manager


Role Purpose:


To support the General Manager in the provision of a varied and innovative activity programme to the whole resident group to meet residents needs and provide meaningful and purposeful activity.


Role Context:


The post is situated within a Care Home setting and based at Folkestone Care Centre which provides Residential, Nursing and Dementia care.

The post holder will plan and deliver a range of individual and group activities to a diverse range of individuals as delegated by the General Manager and support events and fundraisers within the home and the wider community.

The post holder will work within a team and independently when required.

Performance Measures


Working Practice

  • Plan and deliver a needs led Leisure and Wellbeing programme for residents as delegated.
  • To support the General Manager in the management and organisation of events, charity fundraisers, spiritual and pastoral care sessions, hair and beauty service and the social groups linked to equality strands.
  • Attend and contribute to relevant courses, workshops and conferences.
  • Continually update and develop skills, utilising training opportunities and maintain own professional portfolio.
  • Complete all essential training.
  • Engage in regular managerial supervision.
  • Plan and deliver community trips/ outings within the local and wider community.
  • Lead on specific developments and initiatives as required.
  • To be the nominated Leisure and Wellbeing link for an identified resident group which will include the delivery of 1 to 1 meaningful engagement, 1 to 1 physiotherapy exercises as well as providing feedback to the responsible clinical and managerial team members.
  • To be professionally responsible for all aspects of work, ensuring high standards are achieved and maintained.
  • To undertake any other duties that would be a reasonable expectation of the role e.g. session cover.

Dimensions


To support the Social Therapies and Wellbeing Manager in the provision of a varied and innovative programme to the whole resident group to meet resident need.

Working with residents on a one-to-one basis or in groups under supervision within a specific care community.

Communication and Relationship Skills


Provide and receive routine information where tact and persuasive skills may be required when exchanging information with residents where re-assurance may also be required.

To ensure effective communication with other agencies and professionals, both internal and external.

To participate effectively in team meetings.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Maintains strict confidentiality of resident information at all times in accordance with Opus Care Ltd policy.

Has a sensitive awareness of diverse cultural and learning needs, including language barriers to understanding.

Ability to motivate and encourage residents who have an unwillingness to engage in Leisure and Wellbeing activities.

Knowledge, Training and Experience

Recognised sports and leisure related qualification e.g. Coaching, Dance, Exercise to Music, Golf, Bowls, Football etc.

Recognised experience or qualification to teach and guide others in the safe use of fitness and leisure equipment.

Experience of devising and implementing exercise lesson plans and individual exercise programmes.

Experience of planning and facilitating a variety of group and individual interventions or activities.

Experience of developing and creating new ideas or interventions.

Experience of teaching older adults with a range of physical and mental health disabilities.

Experience of working in a care home setting e.g. Resi
